Why Are Cops So Cautious? – Everything Law and Order Blog

While in the grand scheme of things it’s highly unlikely an officer ever has to use deadly force or that the people they are contacting want to use deadly force against them, non-cops need to understand why officers are always in a position of needing to be safe and cautious as they approach the unknown. Officers need to be reminded that there is no such thing as “routine” throughout their career and must always train to be respectful but be ready.

  1. My son wanted to be a cop. I went to the introduction night with him and knew he'd be great at it. But I was relieved when he fell into sales and did well at that, too. There's so, so much he's saved from seeing and being burdened with the memory of. And he's not a target. Good cops are very special people.

  2. 7:44 Y DO CRIMINALS ALWAYS HAVE SUCH UGLY ASS, SHITTY GUNS???….. THEY DO REALIZE YOU CAN BE A FELON AND STILL BUY A NEW SET OF CHEAP GRIPS AND SOME DAMN POLISH PADS/ABRASIVE CREAM FOR LIKE LESS THAN $50 ALL TOGETHER RIGHT???? THEY DONT ID FOR WOOD/RUBBER WHEEL GUN GRIPS AND A METAL POLISH KIT ON AMAZON…. GET A REAL IWB HOLSTER WHILE YOURE AT IT.. INSTEAD OF THAT WRAPPING IT UP IN A TORN, BALLED UP T-SHIRT CRAP…

  3. I don't know why cops don't use pepper spray more often when people refuse to get out of the car. Not only is it an attitude changer, it makes it hard for the perp to initiate a fight.

  4. "Suspicious." Where is the probable cause? Suspicion is not probable cause to search. Sure you can approach the driver. But not the other two. Yea, looks like they may have been up to no good…. but you just can't stop people because you think they are bad people. You can't just ask for 'papers.'

  5. Im glad that the officers weren’t injured physically, though I’m sure that they will have a long recovery from the mental impact of firing at someone. Thank you for your service and stay safe.

  6. They are scared not cautious , and in 40% of the situations they are shooting and killing unarmed peoples just for the same reason , better to be safe than sorry. Well, this is good when you are a civilian , but not when you are a trained police agent.
PS. Is not the case in this video , but be more careful in the future and don't shoot peoples just because they are a suspect , if you can't cope with stressful situations , stop being a police agent.

  7. Can’t imagine the mental scrubbing the deputy will have to go through. Almost having his head blown off and having to retaliate; sheer act of doing so and living with it. Seeing it every time you close your eyes.

  8. I'll always shoot out of my window to show the policeman that I have a gun, just to calm him/her down a bit. I know their work is stressful.

  9. You can tell this kid had bad intentions by the staring at the officer. Lesson to all you homies maybe if he had his pants pulled up with a belt on he would’ve gotten away 😂 PULL YOUR DAMN PANTS UP! Nobody wants to see your GHETTO ASS DUMBASS

  10. asking the wrong question. why do cops commit crimes? why do cops violate peoples constitutional rights? why do cops beat and murder people who haven't committed a crime. i got the answer, they are terrible human beings. FTP

  11. Cops have difficult/stressful jobs jesus… just a simple request to the person and he just opens fire…gotta be cautious

  12. When even your friends are yelling for you to listen to the the officers instructions you know youre doing some dumb shit

  13. this is nothing but brainwashing police by using fear mongering tactics. Cops deaths are at a 50 year low. this fear mongering is how innocent or unarmed people get killed by instilling fear in cops

  14. So many attack indicators:
    1. Just look at his eyes- even with a light in his face his eyes are wife open- he's either scared or high. And if he's scared, the officer should be in code orange.
    2. The fact that he is half way turned around so he can face the officer who is at the rear passenger side window is a huge indicator. Even with another officer in the driver door, he keeps his body turned and focuses almost completely on the officer on his side. He's focused for a reason.
    3. His voice is pitched high and his speech is erratic. He's asking 20 questions and he's not listening for the answers. He doesn't care why they are speaking to him – his speech is a distraction so he can formulate his plan and all he's thinking about is what's in his hand.
    4. Everyone else piled out real quick and he didn't. I would be suspicious that his friends didn't want to be in the car with him for a reason – maybe they know something bad is going on. I admit this is speculation, but you have to do that when you're dealing with unknowns and your life is on the line.
    5. Rules of stupid were ignored by the occupants of the vehicle – don't go to stupid places at stupid times and do stupid things with stupid people. In a parked car at night in front of people's homes doing Lord knows what with a group of teenagers – someone is bound to call the cops.

It's all unfortunate, but it could have been a lot worse.

  15. I don't know about anyone else, but when I was a cop in the 70s, I was very cautious and alert because all of my girlfriend's had husband's.
The only time I could relax was after I slapped them around like little bitches and put their scumbag woman beating piece of shit asses in jail.
Being a cop was so much more fun and rewarding back then, and cop haters can just suck my ass and hate me more.

  16. Why is it every time somebody does something like this they start screaming and yelling that they didn't do anything

  17. Because it's a predatory strategy…hmm how can I give these folks some bullshit laws that they broke and take home a big fat commission.

  18. The officer after neutralizing the threat immediately acts on first aid on the suspect. Mad respect for these officers. Never let your guard down men. And women.

  19. This guy has police all wrong. I'm not saying that every cop is perfect. This man deserved to get shot he put another person in jeopardy including both officers involved. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

  20. That cop almost lost his mind. I'm not picking on him. I'm sure I wouldn't have done any better. Police deserve our respect. I would not want their job.

  21. Can someone imagine how stupid a human being must be to draw in front of two prepared cops? Even if he was able to kill all of them: how far did he get? With what consequences? Sorry but i hope you understand why I don’t want my country invaded by africans. (Yes I know, not all, whites too, blabla)

  22. Seems the cop should not have moved so quick to force the door open in my opinion. Clearly that escalated the situation. I would call that power tripping. Great great kudos for the restraint this same cop had once the suspect was laying face first on the pavement.

Interesting situation. Id say clumsy on initial encounter and highest professionalism at the end.

  23. I mean. They could have tased his trigger finger. This is sarcasm for the slower YouTubers who don't understand. That was obviously a good shoot.
