The truth is, it don’t take much in south Los Angeles to get cops to respond to being called names. Unless they figure out that you’re the bigger bastard with a camera. There never was any drugs being sold obviously. Rick does a great job of entertaining and educating and the cops attitude is evidence of that. These guys were standoffish and even recognized him for that reason. In other words, they watch his videos. I know this police officer and have as much or more respect for him as any other officer I can think of. I look at this interaction as a win win video for everybody to learn from. The police are free to talk to folks if they choose and that is known as a consensual encounter. Supposedly the best choice is not to talk to police at all but the reality is for many people they are damned if they do and damned if they don't. A majority of the so called consensual encounters in this neighborhood where I live involve handcuffs and therefore aren't at all consensual. The LASD deputy's in the neighborhood are well known and documented for being out of control thugs and mostly have no respect for a persons rights. They randomly stuff individuals and even small groups of innocent people into the back of their police cars while rummaging through their vehicles and property. It is common to see LASD stripping peoples clothing off on to the ground during routine traffic stops. And when I say routine, that means a stop based on appearance instead of a violation of the law. The LASD is happy to arrest innocent people stealing their cameras and if you try to file a complaint about it you get laughed out of the station. And while I am being critical about LASD it is probably worth mentioning these statements are not unique to only the sheriffs but in my opinion the LASD seems to be among the worst offenders. And finally I am going to try to make my point. I appreciate that this officer didn't invade Ricks personal space and didn't take it personal when Rick didn't immediately bow down and service him. In other words if he had a job to do, I appreciate that he did it without resorting to threats force and/or unnecessary court appearances and jail. When you record police and disagree with their authority false citations and arrests can add up quick. Negative opinions can add up against police and their departments quickly too as my above statements probably prove. So yes, it is nice to see a cop that hasn't let his job go to his head and still knows how to say good morning. I see this video as a sign of progress and proof that what Ricky is doing and has done is making a difference on the very streets where I live and ride daily. Hopefully members of the Los Angeles Sheriff Department can watch this and learn that they can conduct their so called investigations if they choose, but it is easy enough to do it without shooting people in the back or otherwise violating their personal space and freedoms. In other words I appreciate that this cop kept his hands to himself. Liked, subscribed, commented and going to share now. You should do the same. The point that rick is just standing there is not against the law. Hunting is a cops game always. Try walking to your home minding your own business and a cop puts his hands on you looks at his Sargent and gets the nod, say we go. Sad part is that the cop was following the sargents orders (nod) and the cop had the nerve to apologize to me. Now that’s fucked up. Times 2. So do the numbers.
