From the report of Trooper Shawn Ellis, lightly edited for clarity:

On April 10, 2020, at approximately 6:40 AM, Troop H dispatch advised that Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office was requesting assistance with a pursuit. Deputies were pursuing a black pickup, driven by Justin Battenfield, which had recklessly driven through several traffic lights without stopping and was passing traffic on the shoulder of U.S. 71.

The pursuit of Battenfield has been initiated in the area of Ingersoll Circle and U.S. 71 at approximately 6:36 AM by a Forest Service Ranger. At approximately 6:53 AM, I checked In-Service with Troop H Dispatch and traveled towards U.S. 71 from State Highway 45.

At approximately 6:54 AM, at the intersection of State Highway 45 and U.S. 71, I joined the pursuit as it traveled north on U.S. 71, soon becoming the lead vehicle in the pursuit. While pursuing Battenfield, he traveled through several traffic lights and passed multiple vehicles while driving on the shoulder before turning east onto Zero Street. This particular section of Zero Street (SH255) is a four-lane roadway, divided by a continuous center turn lane and was at the peak of a hill crest. In the area of 66th Street, the pickup began crossing into the westbound traffic lanes meeting traffic at a high rate of speed.

After I relayed the suspect’s actions to Troop H Dispatch, Sgt. Brandon Margis advised that due to Battenfield’s extremely reckless driving, and lack of due regard for the safety of the public that I needed to get the pickup stopped immediately. I then attempted a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle. While executing the PIT, my unit collided with the passenger side of the suspect vehicle. As a result, both vehicles traveled off the roadway and into the east side ditch.

Battenfield’s vehicle collided with a driveway culvert while overturning and my unit went airborne as it traveled over Battenfield’s vehicle. Battenfield sustained fatal injuries and I sustained multiple serious injuries.”

This is the complete pursuit footage.

  1. Let me get this right 50 police 4×4 let a single police car go for it
Which the manoeuvre really needs 2 cars to pull it off safely
From start to finish the amount of danger the pigs put the other road users in was unreal but hey unreal twisted they can pull it off
Let’s support pigs who love little kids and a don’t give a f about justice

  2. The dude died and the officer had non life threatening injuries…….. man. Even i know better than to pit maneuver a guy going over 100. Was just watching a video of a guy that lead police on a chase at 130 and you hear them talking about pit maneuvers but ultimately say that even if they could catch him to do it,, it'd be too dangerous…. the dude ran out of gas, they caught him fleeing into a feild…. should have been the same scenario.

  3. Top speed of 205.996 Km hour if something would have went wrong :
It would have went really wrong.Taking flying high to another level

  4. Why would you pit at 100+ mph very dumb choice to do that There also a couple of good pits that could of happened.

  5. Well damn. To the geniuses saying this was a bad move, it wasn't. Suspect was eliminated the officer lived and no civilians were in any way shape or form harmed due to the reckless actions of the asshole in the truck. He did what he swore to do and could've died doing it, show some pride and respect you twats.

  6. Was really surprised the chase wasn't halted at the edge of town, very lucky the truck & maybe even one of the pursuit cars could have done some horrific damage doing 100mph thru town! 💥
    ☠️

  7. Guys don't you think there was a better way to handle this, like as simple as just rolling down your window and shooting his tires 🤷 once the road was clear

  8. Wow amazing! Yet so very dangerous the way your car flew and his car flipped, wow guys let's appreciate this cops job he did the best he could at the time, also things could have been worse both of you losing your lives. Thank you for the service! Are you okay now?

  9. So I’m not trying to defend the truck driver but why wasn’t he checked out like the officer was instead two officers guns drawn to the truck

  10. This chase probably should have been called off earlier. The officers should have made a judgmental call and let this one go and follow up later w/ a warrant. When he was nearly swerving into oncoming traffic in order to avoid the pit maneuver and on numerous occasions actually heading towards oncoming traffic, that should have been it. It's too dangerous, roads are too straight with no barriers between oncoming traffic. Although this pit maneuver didn't go as planned, it could have been MUCH worse.

  11. WTF?? There has got to be a better way of stopping criminals..that doesnt include an officer dead or in ICU..id be fine w a windshield tax, so when a criminal is cruising a 2 ton murxer weapon at 100+ mph a cop can just shoot through his window.. A cop is worth more than a state patrol cruiser and a cruiser is what? $80k? $90k? To lose both over a high speed chase isnt heroism, is a stupid waste. Just light that mf'er up like Baghdad when you got a clear patch of highway..js. Officers, stay safe..and dont be a dick.

  12. this should never ever be allowed…cop got what he was asking for pulling a stunt like that. im assuming he killed the guy in the truck. just because youre a goody two shoes with badge and a gun dont give you right to kill somebody just because you wanted to stick nose in somebody elses business
