Tucson, Arizona — A Tucson police officer has been fired after he was accused of shooting a shoplifting suspect in a wheelchair nine times, killing him, after the man brandished a knife, authorities said. The video, released by the Tucson Police Department, shows the fatal confrontation between Officer Ryan Remington and a man in a wheelchair. The man, identified by police as 61-year-old Richard Lee Richards, was in a motorized wheelchair at the time and had brandished a knife, but had his back to the officer at the time of the shooting. The incident occurred when the Walmart employee noticed Richards leave the store without paying for a toolbox. The employee followed Richards into the parking lot and asked if he had a receipt. Richards then waved a knife at the worker and said: “Here’s your receipt.”

  1. The public needs to be Protected from police officers like him. The guy was no threat to the Officer The fact that he was in a wheelchair. That Officer or officers could’ve easily used non-lethal force. If You That scared and don’t know when or when not to use Deadly Force then apparently you don’t need to be in Law Enforcement and have no business in Law Enforcement. That Officer should be charged with Murder and sent to Jail for a very long time.

  2. Not good at all.Definitely did not seem to pose any immediate threat to the public… I mean, how fast can he go in a wheelchair. It would be a different story if he got out of wheelchair, then started running towards store where innocent civilians were.

  3. Absolutely stand by and support police officers all the way. There is no way that this can be justified shooting. This was horrible to watch.Should be fired and charged for murder.

  4. I think one round through the pinky toe would have done the trick….not 9 rounds to the chest area at point blank range….jeese

  5. For as long as it takes more time to become a cosmetologist in the US than it does a cop, these instances will continue to happen. Cops in US are a joke.

  6. Nope that's murder point blank. If they can't handle a person in a wheelchair then they should not be a police officer. This is the saddest excuse to kill someone. Just saying

  7. I don't need to mention the obvious like instant reaction was to shoot and shoot and shoot or the fact the victim is wheelchair bound not very mobile so on and so on, what horrified me and stands out the most and speaks volumes about that scumbag is the momentary paused before shooting one final time as if to make sure the job was done. Murder charges should be filled and life in prison should be handed to him.

  8. WHY did they fire the Officer???
    He was 100% JUSTIFIED
If that lunatic enters Walmart and hurst a child with the knife,
then Walmart and the Childs parents would had SUED the Entire department and the CITY.
People on Youtube need to learn the laws before expressing their ignorance.
