Albuquerque, New Mexico — On March 29, 2023, around 6:30 p.m. Albuquerque Police got a call about a dispute in the area of the 4700 block of Glendale Rd NW. Police said no officers were immediately available but then a neighbor reported Macias was shooting a gun, leading police to upgrade the priority of the call and respond by 7:00 p.m. That man has been identified as 32-year-old Francisco Macias. According to the police, Macias was high on narcotics when he reportedly assaulted his mom and aunt inside a home in southwest Albuquerque, just moments before firing his gun outside. Once on scene Officers found an armed Macias with two friends in a front yard and ordered him to drop his gun.

Macias went behind a vehicle and officers then saw him point the gun at his friend, leading them to shoot 37 times. No one was hit, allowing Macias and the two friends fleeing to the backyard before one of the friends wrestled the gun from Macias and threw it out of reach. Then, according to video, Macias picked the other friend off the ground and used him as a shield as police approached. Officers first shot Macias with a less-lethal sponge round and then used a Taser to detain him. Macias was shot in the foot and the projectile was removed from his foot after the shooting, but it’s still unclear if it came from his gun or police. Macias was arrested and booked into jail. Macias was later released from jail, and all charges against him have been dropped at the request of the victims.

  1. Does anyone else find it scary AF that the cops just unload their guns in the direction of the suspect & they could end up in a completely innocent person? Not saying they shouldn’t defend themselves, they have to if someone’s pointing a gun at them. But America’s such a dangerous place because of this gun insanity!

  2. The Fourth Rule of Gun Safety: “Be certain of your target and what’s behind it.”

Every year innocent bystanders are gravely wounded and even killed by errant police gunfire.

    • I don’t know the situation in this case, but at one point there appears to be a lot of rounds fired down range—and AR-15 rifles chambered in either 5.56×45mm or .223 Remington are lethal for thousands of meters.

    • I hope the police are certain of what’s—or better, who’s—in the vicinity of where their firing.

  3. So it's like a traffic infraction, a motorist could report it but they cannot charge you/write ticket if LE did not witness it, unless something like a hit and run occurred/there were injuries.

  4. Enabling the narcotics. All that police response for nothing. The state has to start pressing charges on dangerous offenders like this

  5. He was calling for his Dad in Spanish.
Was it the guy he was holding when the cops grabbed him?
The description refers to the man as a "friend".

  6. what if the crime was different, such as sexual abuse of a minor family member? we still just gonna drop charges? ridiculous. if the police don't take out the trash the people will.

  7. Good job to the family for their plan to be erased from the face of the earth at the hands of their own son 👏

  8. Albuquerque has been turned into a trash city by its politicians and sanctuary status.

  9. This case reminds me the Criminal Law System in my Country, Argentina. Even the suspect shoots, put in danger the life of the civilians, the Police can do nothing and the Law protect every friking suspect. Holy i hate this cases

  10. 37 rounds fired and they didn't hit anything except people's property. I swear, LAPD is the biggest joke in US policing, and that's hard to pull off

  11. The state couldn't charge him anyways??? What he did endangered the public around him. If I lived near there I would push for him to be charged for putting me in danger.

  12. 3:03 best thing out of this whole thing is non lethal officer yelling “taser” BEFORE deploying. With a suspect surrounded by many officer with adrenaline pumping, the noise the taser makes when deploying could have caused a negligent discharge.
