Maricopa, Arizona — The Maricopa Police Department released body camera footage and parts of 911 calls related to the investigation of an officer-involved shooting of a Homestead resident in March. Lawrence Knudsen, 56, called 911 on March 27 and told the dispatcher he was suicidal. During the phone call, Knudsen indicated he had a gun but told the dispatcher he wasn’t looking to hurt any police officers. After the officers arrived, Knudsen can be heard saying “Let’s do this” repeatedly and began to walk toward the officers. An officer instructs Knudsen to back up and he doesn’t comply.

An officer the department identified as “Officer Nye” deploys a stun gun on Knudsen while another officer named “Officer Nylander” shoots him multiple times. Police said Nylander did not have her body camera activated during the shooting but did not specify why. Body-camera footage from Nye and an “Officer McCorry” shows Knudsen collapsing almost immediately after being shot and stunned. Officers later found Knudsen was holding a vape pen in his right hand. Officers performed life-saving measures on Knudsen before he was taken to a hospital where he later died.

  1. That POS female office should be up on a murder charge. A man looking for help ends up shot dead, but no one will care because he's white

  2. Mixed feelings.

If she was alone, I think it would be justified. However with a partner there and backup arriving, it really seemed like she could have been a bit more patient.

We also have the benefit of hindsight, hearing the 911 calls, and reading the title. The responding officers would probably only be told their's a suicidal guy with a gun.

  3. I'm 100% pro police, but that was essentially murder. IF you're going to fire a shot, shoot him in the leg. 3+ shots to the chest is insane.

  4. Sounds like a suicide by cop. Feel bad he was suicidal but i understand why a cop would shoot an armed suicidal man who refuses to disarm himself screaming “come on motherfuckers”. too many retard cyber karens who snuggly sit behind their phone screens and have no idea what police officers encounter everyday. Those Karens who are crying in the comments would be terrible cops you best believe that.

  5. And this is exactly why police normally say "Taser, Taser, Taser" Before making people Ride the Lightening, because this is what can happen. The Female Officer Might be Completely Fucked here.

  6. Um…that was unjustified, guy had his hands out and held no weapon in his hands, taser would've done the job.

  7. Well Dean was no winner in the IQ dept but when I heard a female officer being the first to talk to him I had the distinct feeling it would be "shots fired" even if he didn't have a gun.

  8. You can’t talk like that, make threats, aggressively approach officers while expecting you’re going to be perfectly safe. Mentally ill or not I don’t blame her. Your mental health is your responsibility ultimately.
