San Diego, California — On March 30, 2022, at 4:11 p.m., the San Diego Police Communications Center received a call reporting a male armed with a gun had threatened family members and then threatened to shoot himself at 6500 Bonnie View Drive in the San Carlos neighborhood. The suspect was described as a 60-year-old male wearing a red shirt and black pants. He was a resident of the home who has been identified as Andrew Farnham. Officers responding to the call gathered at a nearby park to formulate a plan to take the male safely into custody. The plan included less lethal options, such as extended range impact weapons and police canines. As officers set up on the home, the 91-year-old reporting party exited the home and walked to the officers.

Before the officers could ascertain more specific information from the man, the suspect walked into the open garage and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at the officers, prompting one sergeant to draw his service weapon and fire. The male was struck at least once by gunfire. Officers and San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel attempted life saving measures and the male was transported to a local hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. While processing the scene and evidence, a BB pistol was recovered with the male. On March 31, 2022, just after 3 p.m., Andrew Farnham was pronounced deceased. The sergeant involved in the shooting is Zachary Pfannenstiel. He is 14 year veteran of the Police Department, currently assigned to the Police Canine Unit.

  1. They are trying to have him comply to their immediate expectations but his communication abilities have been destroyed.

  2. Wow. I know this is California, but is this the record for a 60 year old child to still be living with his parents?

You would think the father would know that it's a BB gun. If he had told the officers the out come might be different.

The officers in this case may have been able to back away a few hundred feet and come up with a plan.

  3. People still don't learn to not call 911 when dealing with family members. I am pro-cop, don't get me wrong and I believe the police were justified, however, the father essentially hired public hitmen to kill his mentally ill son. He had to have known what would happen when he called the police on his son who has a gun!

  4. A Google search reveals that the father was a commander in the United States Navy. I am so sorry that he lost his son this way. My condolences to him and his wife.

  5. Why wasn't the father aware that this is just a BB gun ?
They should not have shot him unless he fired a shot and he did not. They had cover and aiming the gun like this was not a threat, unless you live in a paranoid country as the U.S. In my country, this guy would still be alive.

  6. See what happens when we decide not to fight against sin anymore? Fodder for the evil one, who's duty is distraction then destruction. Then comes judgement. What a sorrowful thing it is, and tragically it is popular.

  7. We live in a strange world where you can call the police and commit suicide by pointing toys gun at them , its just sad

  8. They were screaming at the guy, said they would shoot him, shot him, then the dog. Does anyone else find that to be very aggressive for a man with a BB gun?

  9. Everytime i watch this channel im amazed on the fact that some people get shot once and die and some people get a whole mag dumped into them and servive it really is just a luck thing that one bullet can hit something vital or 10 bullets can miss the vital areas also depends on how the rounds expand or exit all ways a bullet can travel… Crazy
