Buena Park, California — The Buena Park Police released video of a dangerous chase in Buena Park that ended in a fatal shootout between officers and a gunman who shot at a school bus in an attempt to kill the driver – his estranged wife. The high-speed pursuit started on the afternoon of Sept. 3, when an officer patrolling the area of Orangethorpe and Western avenues spotted a silver SUV colliding with the school bus. The officer then saw the SUV’s driver, later identified as 60-year-old Cedric Baxter of Compton, pull out a gun and shoot at the bus. A 6-year-old child and the driver, identified as the man’s estranged wife, were on the bus when the SUV pulled alongside and its driver opened fire. The woman and child were not injured. Baxter then got back into the car and fled as the officer initiated a pursuit. The chase ended when Baxter pulled into a school district building parking lot and officers opened fire. Bodycam video shows Baxter and officers exchanging gunfire. Police said Baxter was a parolee with a lengthy criminal history. He had an active domestic violence restraining order out against him and shortly before that chase his parole had been revoked.

  1. They are gonna hold us to a standard as "untrained" citizens then I'm holding them to a standard… cop is lucky he didn't shoot a bystander. What kind of BS shooting tactic was that? Looks to me like he's ducking behind concealment, that he should know isn't cover, and shooting over it like a towel out in sandyland. Just because the City will pay out tax money in a settlement over an accidental shooting doesn't mean it's right. His reload shows how amped up he was.

  2. If what I read is telling, he wanted to murder his family, including the child. Real parents protect their children. He is NOT a real parent.

  3. Only a girl makes a guy that mad. "I think I'll let this girl wreck my life. On yer mark get set go!" Cops always stop firing too soon.

  4. The one cop needs to get his grip higher. Pretty high chance that is what caused the malfunction. He acts like he has never used that weapon before. Thumb is nowhere near the mag release and his right hand is extremely low. Better start training some more in my opinion.

  5. The guy was shooting at cops and got hit by cops bullets and kept trying to shoot the cops even when laying on the ground, death wish so i'm glad the criminal won't get a trial. Also glad the woman and child on the bus and the cops are ok. Women need to pick their men more wisely.

  6. I'm way more awestruck by the "stupid" than the actual violence or the fact that he died or anything else. AWESTRUCK I tell you.

  7. Criminals seem to have access to plenty of handguns in CA where a law abiding citizen can’t legally carry their own handgun.
