Fresno, California — On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, shortly before 7:00 P.M., Fresno police received reports of a gunshot heard in the alley parallel to the 2600 Block of North Fresno Street. Multiple 9-1-1 callers said they heard the shot and screaming from a group of people in the alley. Investigators later learned that a family disturbance escalated, and one family member shot another. One of the family members told dispatch that her son had been shot by her son-in-law. When officers arrived, the scene was chaotic. Officers contacted the gunshot victim, whose face, neck, and chest were covered in blood. Officers were told the suspect, later identified as 42-year-old Richard Castrillo, was further down the alley, and he still had a gun in his possession.

As officers approached Castrillo, they saw him struggling on the ground with another male and a female standing next to them. The male was later identified as the gunshot victim’s father and the female was later identified as the gunshot victim’s sister. An officer told the male and female to “move out of the way” multiple times and they eventually complied. The officer told Castrillo to “drop the gun,” which he was holding in his right hand. Castrillo raised the gun and pointed it at the officers and other bystanders in the alley. The officer discharged his service weapon, striking Castrillo. Officers then approached Castrillo, removed the handgun, and rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived. Castrillo was transported to the hospital where he was listed in stable but critical condition. Castrillo is facing several felony charges including assault with a firearm and a felon possessing a firearm.

  1. This is what I imagine the worlds gonna be like in 10 years time with Gen Z coming in as the next ‘adults’ abunch of entitlement and selfishness

  2. Every time I watch videos like this I think, stuff like this can’t happen in the USA…..this is third world country crap…and then I remember that the USA is just a third world country with some cologne splashed on it…..there is a very thin blue line keeping the country from breaking down…..but not for much longer my friends….prepare

  3. how dare you shoot someone that shot one of us and then pointed a gun at you after we called you for help multiple times! I don't know which one is more brain cell eradicating: This or the Boston Marathon bomber's mom screaming "Why did you kill him!?" after shooting at police, throwing bombs at them, trying to run them over & after committing multiple murders.

  4. They shouldn't have called the cops and let it solve itself. If you, a victim, yells at the people who are there to help and protect you from the person who harmed you then you didn't need them in the first place and should not have called. At that point I'd ignore the "victim" and let them deal with their own wounds

  6. 🤷‍♂️👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼👍🏼

  7. I would've think a number of times shooting him in that location with all those irritated people around…what a mess.
but the officer did a favor for everyone involved for sure. except for the young girl going crazy after the shots.

  8. So…. what exactly did they want the cops to do in this situation? First the callers sound angry because the cops weren't getting there quick enough, then they are angry that they dealt with the threat.

  9. I've been down that alley a few times when I worked as a cable installer – not a great neighborhood.. don't like that area.

  10. Ok. I read the description. Did the father of the victim beat the suspect? I fail to understand why the suspect was lying on the ground but still had his gun. Was he drunk and fell down?
