Body camera footage released to the public captured the moment Glendale Officer Josh Hilling’s encountered Javier Pablo Aleman walking toward him with a knife asking him to shoot him. Officer Hilling fired one shot striking Aleman in the abdomen. Aleman was wanted out of Baltimore for for homicide, jail records show.

ok i know leg shots are tough, and the risk of the round skipping and hitting someone beyond the target is an issue, but here, with a solid background, the officer could have just taken one shot at his arm or leg. not blaming the officer for failing to do that, because they don't train them to do such a thing. but I wonder how many of these suicide by cop instances can be solved without a fatality if they trained officers to try something unconventional rather than dumping an entire mag center mass.
This officer actually did an excellent job just firing one shot, but if he had charged him.. he would have had no choice but to kill him. during that waiting period, wouldn't it be a good idea to train officers to maybe take another shot to just incapacitate them as a last resort?
