Complete Arrest of Steelers Cornerback Justin Layne – Everything Law and Order Blog

In the early morning hours of Friday, April 23, 2021, at approximately 1:20 a.m., a Willoughby Hills, Ohio, police officer was conducting traffic enforcement on Interstate 90 east when he noticed a Dodge Charger approaching his location at a high rate of speed — confirmed with handheld laser at 89 mph. The speed limit was 60. The officer proceeded after the violator and initiated a traffic stop for the excessive speed violation.

The owner and operator of the vehicle was identified as Justin Layne. There were two other male occupants in the vehicle. During the course of the traffic stop Mr. Layne identified himself as a professional football player, and the arresting officer later confirmed that Mr. Layne is a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Based upon a records check conducted by the officer at the scene of the traffic stop, it was determined that Mr. Layne was operating his vehicle with a suspended license. There was also an outstanding warrant for his arrest for failure to appear on a traffic violation through another jurisdiction. Mr. Layne was taken into custody at that time.

At that point, officers conducted a probable cause search of Layne’s charger, after observing loose cannabis particles strewn throughout the vehicle, as well as the odor of raw marijuana. A loaded Glock 9mm pistol was located in the center console. Mr. Layne is a not a licensed concealed carry permit holder in the state of Ohio. Through further interviews and continued investigation, Mr. Layne was arrested and charged with Improper Handling of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle, a fourth degree felony. He was also cited for the related traffic violations.

In early May, the felony charge against Layne was dropped when he pleaded guilty in Willoughby Municipal Court to a misdemeanor charge of possessing criminal tools and two traffic violations. Layne received a fully suspended 180-day jail sentence, must serve six months probation and perform 32 hours of community service.

Layne, who played football at Michigan State prior, was selected by the Steelers in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft. He appeared in 16 games last season. His four-year contract with the Steelers is for $3,683,180 contract, including a $922,180 signing bonus and an average annual salary of $920,795.

  1. I'm a football playa bro, I'm special! 😭😂
Booh on da phone all where ya gonna be at? I believe they call it JAIL cuz.
Homeboy climbed out of the back cuffs like he's done that before. Why does homeboy get to keep his phone while in the backseat, new NFL rule? New endzone dance moves.

  2. Just plain stupid. From how he speaks and his bad choices, no doubt he was just passed through college to keep him on the football team. Hopefully, he'll lose his contract and need to work for a living. Not that football isn't hard work, it's just that a real job involves personal responsibility. I suppose he could swing a shovel for a living.

  3. how you a nfl player and dont have a valid license lol wtf. making 950k a year and you do this smfh. Some people dont deserve money

  4. A gun in the car, weed in the car, outstanding warrants, a suspended license, and he thought it was a good idea to drive 89 MPH. Some people don't know it when they have the world by the ass, they're just determined to screw their lives up.

  5. "we don't have the volume of that like a normal city"—you shouldn't need to worry about having this arrest made known public; appears on YouTube with over 35k views in 6 days 🙃

  6. Bra you making almost a million a year and your driving on suspended license.smh guess thats better then a dui.

  7. You know the sad thing is these professional so-called professional I nothing professional about it when the scholarship is handed out to an individual that was a troublemaker felon back in school they couldn't get good grades they got overlooked and passed over because he was a talented ball player that brought a lot of money into the league so they decided to look the other way as long as he kept playing ball the way you can play ball it ain't that he just started being a troublemaker it gets ignored and if you ain't got the brains to get the good grades then you sure in the hell ain't got talent. My children do not idolize professional sports and it's sad to see how some parents raise their kids to idolize so-called pro athlete and then want to disrespect their own country on live TV that itself should have been grounds for suspension world will be a better place without the National Football League They Do It For the Love of the Game didn't do it for no money like a college athlete those are the real athletes to get looked over it have the brains and talent and the smarts to Never Go Pro

  8. Holly fucking shit, He had a gun. So fucking what. Constitution says he can. Anyone who thinks this is ok in America can fuck right the hell off.
As far as the weed, I have zero problem with it ,but he should just keep it at home. But big fucking deal though. The man plays a violent ass sport and I rather him have that then a fuck ton of pills. Should be legal all together.
