Sgt. Tom Jenkins talks about circumstances of this call.

Sgt. Tom Jenkins of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department investigates a public disturbance. When the officer attempts to question a hostile male individual, he is forced to physically retrain the man when he does not comply with directives. The intoxicated man curses the officer during questioning and sobs openly when he’s arrested. Meanwhile, a victim/witness describes how the belligerent suspect verbally assaulted an Asian man and several other citizens without cause.

  2. Officer Jenkins is also extremely fair with people, but if someone crosses the line, they get what they deserve.

  4. Sgt Jenkins holds the perp'r right arm with his own left hand while grabbing his neck with his own right hand. He's controlling and cushioning the fall. He has regard for the perp's well being and the skill to go with it. Kudos.

  5. Crazy I just ran into Sarge at Target here in Las Vegas crazy, the show has a huge following. Ive been watching Cops from Day 1, sorry to his wife for intruding a bit. LOL

  6. I haven't heard that phrase since a class I took in the early 70s. "Ask, tell, make". First word with a soft voice, totally non confrontational. Hesitate. No compliance move to second word. Drop the friendly and delivered as a command. Hesitate. No compliance jack em up. That style of policing would still work today. Better than what is typically used, which puts officers in danger. Do NOT let subjects run the show. Get the incident over with as quickly as possible. Thumbs up to the Sarge.
