Melbourne police took two suspects into custody following a robbery that ended in a two-county chase and an Osceola County school being placed on lockdown. No injuries were reported. “We have two in custody,” said Lt. Dan Lynch, spokesman for the Melbourne Police Department.

The two unidentified suspects, believed to be armed, were arrested near Harmony, Florida, as Melbourne police reported through a series of live tweets. The incident unfolded as Melbourne police worked to find the pair following the 3 p.m. robbery of a Verizon store this afternoon.

A patrol officer quickly spotted a vehicle matching the description of the getaway vehicle and followed the vehicle on Interstate 95 and westbound along U.S. 192. The Brevard County sheriff’s helicopter also responded as officers followed the pair into Osceola County in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop. A nearby high school in Harmony was briefly placed on lockdown.

Moments later, officers attempted the pit maneuver, a tactical move that forces drivers to abruptly move to the side, but it failed initially. The vehicle, which reportedly had a flattened tire, stopped a short time later. Officers then held the men at gunpoint and ordered them to surrender. The robbery happened at the Verizon store in the 900 block of Wickham Road. Police said two masked men were last seen leaving the store.

  1. Disliked because you killed the purpose of a good chase! Why not just publish in the paper we were in a chase!

  2. I don't understand why people decide to run away from the cops. unless u have a stolen high end sports car your chances of getting away are slim. even if your car is fast enough or if you're a good driver they will still have your plates
