The Oklahoma Highway Patrol on Tuesday released dash-cam footage showing a trooper crashing into a suspect’s pickup during a highway pursuit, resulting in the man’s death after he was ejected from the vehicle. The footage shows trooper Jonathan Earls pursuing 44-year-old Alexander Larmon of Sapulpa eastbound on Interstate 40 about 70 miles southwest of Tulsa in the early-morning hours of May 8. The high-speed chase ended near Cromwell when Earls used a “tactical vehicle intervention” on Larmon’s pickup, causing the vehicle to veer off the roadway and roll several times, coming to a rest on its top. Larmon was ejected about 10 feet from the vehicle, and troopers can be seen in the video searching a field covered in thick grass for the man.

Eventually, a trooper who is off-screen is heard saying Larmon’s body was found. Toward the end of the video, Earls tells somebody, “There wasn’t nothing I could do. He was going to kill someone; he was drunk.” An OHP report states Larmon had an odor of alcohol and was not wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred. The report does not indicate the estimated speeds of the pursuit, but a trooper in the video can be heard saying the pickup reached speeds in excess of 100 mph. The OHP has ruled the trooper’s use of force was justified. Law enforcement typically use the TVI maneuver in an attempt to cause a fleeing vehicle to turn sideways and come to a stop.

  1. Run from police and they end up doing a good Pit on you and you die because you didn't wear your seat belt, can't fix stupid !

  2. I don’t agree with the officers decision to do a PIT at that speed. The roadways were fairly clear. With that being said, he performed it near perfectly

  3. that trooper was bound to get him, trooper was so mad you could see it in the video his eyes looked like the devil, I think it is a shame he couldn't have waited till he slowed down or got spike strips shame on the trooper, seemed he didn't care he was dead, he was trying to justify himself before the body was found he knew he was dead in his mind he was so mad he forgot to put his seatbelt on. They say he died because he was not wearing a seatbelt he was till trooper told him to take it off he might as well shot him

  4. Police need to have mini spike strips that go in front of and behind a tire like immigration has when conducting traffic stops so that in the event of someone running away, they have an initial advantage from a punctured tire.

  5. I wish more drunk drivers themselves were killed instead of innocent people that they crash into. This was the best end-result I can imagine, that guy was definitely going to kill someone one day or that night if this officer hadn't stopped him. Good riddance!

  6. Fantastic Cop:

    1 perfect Putt Maneuver
2 not timid & slammed on brakes too early making Pitt ineffective.

    3 balls of steal

4 always calm-( no frantic screaming)

5 kept directions straight- north, east, west south

6 perfect throttle control after initiating the Pitt

7 exhibited clear presence of mind to grab rifle before waiting squad car

    8 no screaming into radio

9 always maintained presence kd mind and calmness in the heat kd battle.

    PERFECT COP!!

  7. This perpetrator put so many people's lives in danger. His actions are really no different than randomly shooting a firearm. For the safety of the public, this officer put his life on the line to end the pursuit by taking out the perpetrator. I'm of the belief that if a perpetrator has total disregard for public safety, as demonstrated here, law enforcement officers should have justification to utilize deadly force.

All State Highway Patrols should have trained 'sniper' troopers with 50 caliber rifles. Setup at a roadblock and place a well aimed shot into the engine. Better yet, a well aimed shot into the driver.

  8. "It's only one beer", if you want to drink then pick a designated driver or call an Uber/lyft it could well save someones life including your own.

  9. Drinking makes you stupid. Not exactly happy this guy paid the ultimate price for his bad choices but the officer did the right thing to make sure no innocent person was hurt.

  10. So that trooper killed this man just for driving drunk!?!? Wtf!?! Hopefully this officer was arrested for manslaughter. DWI is obviously bad but nobody deserves to die for something like this.

  11. I agree dead drunk drivers because to many of them keep doing it till they kill someone.God bless our law officers and keep them safe

  12. Darwin award winner. When you run, you have a good chance of losing your life. Thankfully, this idiot didn't take anyone with him when he went….
