Missouri State Highway Patrol officials say a semitrailer sideswiped a trooper’s vehicle that was stopped on the side of the highway Monday afternoon in Polk County.
Sgt. Jason Pace said luckily no one was hurt in the incident, which was recorded on the patrol vehicle’s dashboard camera. Pace said the crash is a good reminder to drivers to slow down and move over to the far lane when an emergency vehicle is on the side of the road.
Pace said a trooper stopped someone for a traffic violation at 12:30 p.m. Monday on Highway 13 just north of Bolivar.
After completing the traffic stop, the trooper returned to his patrol car.
Seconds after getting back in the patrol car, a semitrailer sideswiped the patrol car, causing extensive damage to the car, according to Pace.
“Our safety is on the drivers’ shoulders,” Pace said. “Where we are working is only a few feet from the motoring public and moving traffic.”
In Missouri, Pace said the law states that drivers must slow down as they come upon emergency vehicles that are stopped on the side of the road with their lights on. If the emergency vehicle is stopped on a divided highway, drivers should move to the far lane if it is safe to do so.
Pace said the driver of the semitrailer in Monday’s crash was cited for careless and imprudent driving.

Thats such a stupid crash, it happens here in the UK too. Truck driver should be prosecuted, and force to pay some of the damages too. They're professionals in charge of 20 tonnes of metal, so it shouldn't be taken lightly.
