The Minnesota State Patrol on Tuesday released dashcam video footage showing a train striking a semi west of Eveleth last month.

The incident happened on Jan. 20 at the railroad crossing where St. Louis County highways 7 and 101 meet, about 3 miles west of Eveleth. The Patrol reported that the crash happened moments after the semi pulled away from an inspection by State Patrol Sgt. Jeff Shay.

The semi driver “ignored the red flashing lights and train horn and drove onto the tracks,” the Patrol reported Tuesday. “The train dragged the semi about a quarter-mile down the track before stopping.”

There were no serious injuries from the crash; the driver of the semi, a 67-year-old man from Iron, suffered a laceration near his eye and was cited for failing to stop at a railroad crossing.

  1. Old man truck driver needs to call it quits before he kills someone. we obviously see that he's capable of making stupid decisions which makes him a liability on the road especially with a big truck. Shut her down old man .

  2. Police officer is in good physical shape. Guy runs too and fro still able to have a calm conversation over the radio. Not the type we have around here.

  3. Driver wanted to kill themself. Train hit truck in drivers door.
Then watch video the driver of truck not badly hurt he says he is ok to cop.

  4. To make matters worse, he did that with a police car right behind him. You must have an IQ of at least 100 to drive a car. LOL

  5. So he was watching the other car instead of the Crossing Lights ?
And couldn't hear that loud ass horn ?..
Shouldn't be driving at all, much less an 18 Wheeler !

  6. Geez…not even the sound of the train horn gave this guy an inkling that yes indeed, there might be a train attached that horn?

  7. They sound like Canadians to me…. but I bet that they can distinguish themselves from Canadians.

I sound like a hillbilly… a lot of us went to college. You can take the kid out of the hollow (valley) but you cannot take the hollow out of the kid.

  8. THAT was a deliberate attempt at Derailment !
While he sat off the side waiting for train ! Look at his tracks wasn't even waiting on the clean pavement !
    Perfect

  9. It's always hysterical how truckers always say the cars are the problem. Not even close. Probably 80% of semi drivers are a disaster waiting to happen. I see them driving wreckless every day.

  10. I didn't expect to hear "Come Dancing" by The Kinks start playing on the radio.. (0:13 & 1:23)

Such fond childhood memories; the nostalgia!.

(Thankfully nobody got seriously injured by the end of this accident though!.)

  11. That is insane I guess the truck driver probably got a ticket and he was so pissed that he completely misses the 4 warning lights of the Railtrack.
