Wasco, California — On the morning of November 27, 2022, at approximately 1:00 a.m., deputies were on scene of a peace disturbance in the 600 block of N. Maple Street in Wasco, CA, when they heard gunshots coming from Gromer Avenue west of N. Palm Avenue. Deputies responded to that area and located four vehicles. All four vehicles immediately fled westbound on Gromer Avenue. After a short vehicle pursuit one vehicle was involved in a single vehicle collision at Magnolia Avenue and Gromer Avenue. Driver Joel Yerena complied with deputies’ orders but passenger, Kevin Romero, 21, did not and started to walk away.

Romero was armed with a handgun and fled on foot. It was at this time an deputy-involved shooting occurred. After the shooting, Romero pushed himself off the ground and pointed his gun at deputies where a second deputy-involved shooting happened. Romero was taken to a hospital for his injuries and eventually charged with assault with a firearm on a peace officer, firearm violations, having a controlled substance while armed with a gun and other charges. Yerena was taken into custody and charged with evading police. On January 11, 2023, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office convened a Critical Incident Review Board examining the use of force in this incident. After reviewing all the facts involved in this case, the use of force in this case was determined to be within department policy.

  1. There must be nothing but cobwebs in your skull to not do EXACTLY what the angry police officers with guns pointing at you are telling you to do. Hell even if I had done NOTHING wrong and they had the wrong guy, I'd be on the ground with my hands out the second I had a gun pointed my way.

  2. He is lucky to survived the hail of bullets from the officer. He is also lucky that police these days do not have the grain in there bullets to do lots of damage. The bullets are more on par of a .22 long rifle bullets and the led is a softer (rounder) so they dont tumble or break apart to create sever damage. You see this time and time again on these videos. Unless the officer gets a head shot or shot to heart. Also this is why when you an officer unload like this, the criminal still is able to react after being shot. Cannot blame the officer for shooting like this. The mainstream audience thinks this is excessive, but in reality they have to , to stop the purp.

  3. Maybe it's the video but the deputy keeps saying. "He's reaching" and you can see the gun clearly behind the suspect. Otherwise it's all good.

  4. I found nothing "disturbing" about this video. As a matter of fact I found it to be quite pleasurable.
