   Summerfield, Florida — On May 18, 2024, Deputy Larson was performing traffic enforcement on Sunset Harbor Road in Summerfield when he spotted a sedan towing a wooden trailer with no tag attached. The driver, Charles Williams, ran a stop sign and fled when Deputy Larson attempted a traffic stop. After a brief pursuit, Williams jumped from the moving vehicle and fled on foot. Ignoring commands to stop, he was tased by Deputy Larson. While being transported to the jail, Williams kicked the patrol car doors and made threats to law enforcement. He was arrested for Flee/Elude, Resisting without Violence, Failing to Register a Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle without a Valid License, and Resisting Arrest with Violence. He is held on a $9000 bond.

11. So his only offense was pulling an unregistered trailer without a valid drivers license? No warrants, no drugs, no weapons, not DUI. Yet he decides to try to outrun police while pulling the trailer. You can’t fix stupid.

23. I know I’m going to be called or sorts of names, but it makes my soul sad to hear him cry out “please stop”. To be clear – I am 100% behind the police taking this action and even more when needed. This isn’t an apologetic comment on behalf of criminals. But it is a reflection of deep down in me sorrow someone has fallen so far and an honest sadness that they have taken a path to such fear and suffering. You could here the inner child in that man’s voice. I hope people don’t hate in this comment too much. We can have justice and empathy at the same time. They aren’t mutually exclusive positions. 🙏

31. Good thing that that ‘Less-Lethal Self-Defence Tool’ was used to stop a fleeing subject that posed no threat to the cop.

    Despite that Tasers have the ability to kill (which is why the description was changed from NON-lethal to LESS-lethal), and were INTENDED as a self-defence tool. Tasers are now commonly used as Forced Compliance Weapons.

    But if being less-lethal is the only requirement, then how is this any different than a cop shooting a fleeing suspect in the leg? It ‘likely won’t’ kill so it must be ok right?

    The intent of tasers was good, the reality is that because it’s not likely to kill and has become acceptable, that cops resort to using tasers way before communicating has been exhausted.
    Where a cop would try using his words and reasoning to talk to a subject, now the same cop in the same situation will quickly taser the subject.
    It’s become a cowards tool that promotes Excessive Force.
