The Marion County Sheriff’s Office released dashcam, bodycam, Aviation unit footage of a pursuit of a motorcyclist on January 5, 2024.
Corporal Joshua Beccue from the MCSO Traffic Unit approached Elder near the intersection of Southeast Baseline Road and East Silver Springs Boulevard. Despite attempts to get Elder to stop, he continued westbound, with his passenger urging him to cease driving. Eventually, Elder turned into a shopping center parking lot on the 2500 block of E Silver Springs Boulevard, attempting to conceal his motorcycle behind the Taylor College Building.
AIR-1 guided deputies, informing them that Elder had dismounted and was walking in front of the building. Authorities apprehended him without further incident. A search of the motorcycle uncovered a trafficking amount of fentanyl in Elder’s possession. Additionally, it was discovered that Elder’s license was suspended, and the motorcycle was unregistered.
Elder was arrested on charges including three counts of Fleeing to Elude a Law Enforcement Officer, False Imprisonment, Trafficking in Fentanyl, Driving with a Suspended License as a Habitual Traffic Offender, Reckless Driving, and Failure to Register a Motor Vehicle. He was transported to the Marion County Jail and remains in custody without bond.
According to the Ocala StarBanner, Neil Elder has a criminal history that includes time served in prison for uttering forged instruments, grand theft, and simple battery. He was released from prison in December 2009 but has since been convicted of various offenses, such as domestic battery, disorderly conduct, and drug possession. In April 2015, Elder faced charges of attempted murder on a victim who Elder accused to have snitched on him to get out of prison, failure to appear for petit theft, and resisting an officer without violence. The Villages-News reported in July 2017 that Elder, classified as a habitual traffic offender, was arrested for driving a car.
In this specific incident in Sumter County, a sheriff’s deputy observed a silver SUV running through multiple stop signs around 1 a.m. before entering a parking lot. During a subsequent traffic stop, Neil Lawrence Elder admitted to the deputy that he did not possess a valid driver’s license. He claimed to be driving the vehicle to assess its steering issues, as per the arrest report.
Further investigation revealed that Elder had multiple suspensions on charges including driving under the influence, refusal to submit to a breath test, driving on a suspended license, and failure to pay financial obligations.

In 2015: Alleged meth cook tried killing man who 'snitched.
The victim told deputies his friend took him to the home of Elder's girlfriend to explain to Elder he did not "snitch" on anyone when he was sent to prison.
The victim said when he arrived at the home, he told his friend to stay in the vehicle. When the victim entered the home he noticed Elder cooking meth inside the living room around a child, according to the arrest report.
Deputies said the victim told Elder he should not be cooking meth around a child. Elder then became angry and began yelling at the victim, saying he snitched to get out of prison, there was a hit out on him and he was going to kill him, the Sheriff's Office said.
Elder began cutting the victim on the hand and then his left arm, causing a large laceration. Deputies said the victim ran out of the home to get away from Elder, who dropped the knife, picked up a baseball bat and began to chase him.
Once Elder caught up with the victim, Elder told him he was going to make him suffer in pain before he killed him, deputies said. Elder then struck the victim with the baseball bat.
The victim was able to get away from Elder by entering the vehicle where the victim's friend was waiting, who then quickly drove off, taking the victim to the hospital, deputies said.
Doctors at the hospital told deputies the victim's injuries were life-threatening. The doctors said the victim lost blood and could also be suffering from a fractured shoulder, deputies said.
Elder was later found and arrested Tuesday for attempted murder, deputies said. He was given no bond.
