Fort Worth, Texas — On the evening of July 4 and into the early morning hours of July 5, 2023, the Fort Worth Police and fire departments, were working together, to proactively address illegal fireworks activity in the city. The Fort Worth PD officer and the arson investigator were working as a two person team, assigned to this detail and responding to fireworks complaints. At approximately 09:20 p.m. On July 4, this team was dispatched to a fireworks disturbance call, at the corner of Ross Ave and 32nd street, where there was a large block party going on. They spoke with the residents at the location about the disturbance, but did not observe active fireworks activity at that time. At around 12:25 a.m., this team was dispatched to a call in another part of the city and on the way, drove past a block party, at Ross Ave in 32nd. Upon arrival, the officers observed an apparently injured male, walking away from another male, holding a firearm. The officers got out of their vehicle and began walking toward the house at the corner, which was the location of the block party and the crowd.

At the same time the officers were stopping to investigate, Fort Worth PD 911 dispatchers received a call from a neighbor, about a disturbance with people fighting at the corner of Ross in 32nd street. As the Fort Worth officer approached, a gunshot was heard and a male, later identified as 21-year-old Billy Smith, could be seen standing and pointing a firearm at what officers later learned he was on the ground next to an SUV. Perceiving an imminent threat to a third party, the Fort Wort officer fired his handgun at Smith, striking him multiple times. Smith fell to the ground. At the same time this was occurring, the arson investigator, who was standing in the front yard to the officer’s left, observed a second male, later identified as 30-year-old Bronshay Minter, with a pistol in his hand. The pistol had a weapon light activated, which was shining in the direction of officers and the person on the ground. At this moment, officers heard two shots fired. The arson investigator fired his handgun at Minter. The Fort Worth officer also fired at Minter. Minter was struck and fell to the ground, dropping the pistol. He then got up and ran south and around the corner of the house to the west.

When the Fort Worth officer approached Smith, where he had fallen on the ground, he observed a semiautomatic pistol and removed it, placing it on the ground behind him. The pistol that was dropped by Minter can also be seen lying on the grass where he fell. Two steel shell casings matching the caliber of Minter’s pistol were found close by. Investigators also found a leather Sap, also known as a blackjack, on the ground next to the pistol. The arson investigator moved to the corner of the house where he encountered a male who was shot in the leg and provided aid to him. During this incident, a male was sitting on the curb next to the SUV. He appeared to have been injured. Later, investigation revealed that he had been shot, stabbed and beaten. The male and a female then left the scene in a vehicle, but officers were able to make contact with them later. Additional backup officers arrived and began establishing control of the scene. Officers located two additional gunshot victims, a male and a female. An additional male was observed on scene with an apparent gunshot wound to the arm. However, that person did not remain on scene, did not identify himself, and investigators have been unable to locate that male. Once MedStar arrived, Smith was pronounced deceased on the scene. Minter was transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased at the hospital.

  1. Was it innocent citizens being targeted again by "evil police" who hunger for blood mmmmm. Fantastic reaction by the police 2 stop the aggression

  2. Going to a neighborhood where there's a substantial number of…. huwhite supremacists… is like playing Russian roulette everyday of your life

  3. The description is wild lol. Great job to the cops tho with all the confusion and multiple armed people causing harm to others and not giving a crap.

  4. Now that's a real loyal good woman 🙏👍
My wife and I are thinking as soon as he hits the hospital floor the pastor should be walking in the door. I now pronounce you husband and wife 🙏❤️🙏❤️

  5. Um so cops just went guns blazing. How do we know the right man was shot and the other was in defense of self and others?

  6. Celebrate Independence Day by…illegal fireworks? Well, if no one is hurt or bothered, I can understand. Shooting, stabbing, or beating others at a block party? Wait a minute!

  7. Going to need to see an investigation and a report done on this. Too many people in the comments are jumping to conclusion. Who is to say that this person was going to "execute" him and wasnt holding him at gun point? Also, the other individual draws his gun onto the cop, who he may or may not been aware if he was a cop. Who is to say these were the people shooting him and/or stabbed him or they were defending himself. Its a chaotic situation and Ive been in a situation where Ive had a dude who tried to rob me at gun point, wearing nothing but my shorts. I need more information and an actually investigation done to form an opinion on this one.
