Fresno, California — On Saturday, March 4, at 4:55 p.m., officers from the Fresno Police Department attempted a traffic stop at Fresno Street and Shaw Avenue on a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. The driver of the vehicle, 29-year-old Robert Corchado, was recognized as an individual with several outstanding felony warrants, including one for felony evading. Corchado failed to yield to the officers and sped towards Highway 41. The officers initiated a pursuit but discontinued the pursuit when Corchado drove the wrong way onto the Highway 41 ramp. Corchado was subsequently located by a Fresno Police Department air unit and was observed driving at a high rate of speed, failing to stop at several intersections and nearly causing a traffic collision with another motorist.
As a result, a sergeant determined that Corchado posed a danger to the public and requested officers to re-initiate the pursuit and authorized a PIT (Pursuit Immobilization Technique) maneuver if Corchado did not yield. When Corchado did not yield a PIT maneuver was performed disabling Corchado’s vehicle. Before officers could exit their patrol car, Corchado fired multiple rounds from a handgun toward the officers and both officers returned fire. In the exchange of gunfire one of the rounds fired by Corchado struck an officer in the chest. The round was stopped by the officer’s ballistic vest. Corchado, who had just repeatedly fired at officers and was potentially armed, began running towards a nearby occupied vehicle that had pulled to the side of the road.
Officers gave Corchado commands to stop as he neared the uninvolved motorist’s car, but he did not comply. An officer fired his weapon, striking Corchado. Additional officers arrived on scene and took Corchado into custody. The officers provided medical aid, including CPR. Corchado was pronounced deceased on scene by paramedics. It was later learned Corchado discarded his 9mm handgun near his vehicle after the exchange of gunfire with officers. There was one live round in the chamber, and the magazine was empty. Shell casings from the handgun that Corchado fired at officers were located inside of his vehicle. In addition, a .22 caliber rifle was located between the driver and passenger seats of Corchado’s vehicle. Detectives located three rounds fired by Corchado that struck the officer’s patrol car.

Is everyone just going to ignore the backdrop downrange of where the officer is firing after he exits his vehicle????? Does no one see those cars and buildings???? Better judgement and training is needed for these encounters, especially discharging the firearm with people nearby, Stray bullets are real, folks.
1:11 that grouping after taking a shot to the vest is VERY impressive
corchado got scorched
It's a hell of a thing to get shot in the vest, knowing that a relatively thin layer of Kevlar is all that stood between you and a bullet in your lung.
Thank God they stopped him before he got to that car
Rest in piece to that ballisti vest
Two shoots starting @1:12 were sketchy. An innocent bystander in his car was downrange and could’ve been hit. Other than that, WELL DONE officers!
I'm glad the officer took out the perp and wasn't too badly hurt, but man there is a lot of Crossfire
Another crazy democrat…..
That officer is a pimp on a blimp cool customer.
Just a normal day, in fcking Murica
people so retarded! ….camaro dude standing there like nothing happen
Can't believe this cop shooting up the neighbor hood. They just don't care
I am so glad that guy is no longer on earth
dude in the camaro definitely a wanted person. was like hell yes!!
Another piece of s**t bit the dust! Thank you officers for your service! May God protect you always!
Blue Lives Matter! 🚔
Now CA DOJ is going after the officers saying the criminal didn't have a firearm on him…
Police doing their jobs, courts doing their jobs, prison system fails bad, letting a lot of dangerous criminals out early. This is only Fresno I can say, rest of California mostly gives criminals more rights than the victims…
Props to that cop for staying in the fight after taking one to the vest. ðŸ‘ðŸ»ðŸ‘ðŸ»
Open borders make countries unstable
And nothing of value was lost. Good work officers!
Very dodgy backstop!
Another scumbag assumes room temperature. Well done officers! Wishes for a speedy recovery to the wounded officer.
Glad to see that none of the good guys were injured, and that one more bad guy earned himself a dirt nap.
Remarkable footage of this incident!
Tell me why the hell did I tear up while one officer checked the other officer for a hit!
Excellent Pit done here!
These men deserve a huge gratitude of thanks for there team work!
Great job officers!
V6 Camaro lol
that back drop though….
effectively hitting a moving target while running… this man needs a medal and a first prize for marksmanship. I wonder if he was special forces before becoming a cop…
Super Turd gets what's coming to him.
They just love to shoot people in the back. If any of us did that we'd be in prison
Love how people that hear gunshots that close still go outside to look what's going on. There were already two lulls in this engagement, there could always still be a threat.
Officer is a complete badass for staying in the fight. Mr. Cochando will no longer be a problem to anyone. Sorry to the family that this man put you through hell, but you can't shoot an officer and expect to live through it. The officer was 100% justified.
The same lawyers who should be putting him in jail are the ones ambulance chasing the family to sue the department. Sickening. Guy shouldnt have been on the streets, and there should be a charge for families turning a blind eye and enabling these violent criminals.
