This is the first in a series of rare views that you will be getting on this channel, all of which will provide – consistent with the ethos of Real World Police – the full picture.

It’s easy to find videos on the internet showing hoist rescues, but nearly all of those videos are edited to show a few minutes of the incident. That has more of a negative impact than you might think, as it makes it more difficult for agencies to learn from each other’s experiences.

Let’s change that together, beginning right now with this complete footage upload of KCSO’s March 19, 2015 rescue of an injured hiker from Lake Melakwa in Washington State. Solid job all around.

  1. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️

  2. To hell with that "yeah, I'm not going to carry it " guy (paraphrasing); bet he'd be the first to talk about how expensive all his gear was, if he was in a similar situation.

  3. Only thing I might have done as well if I were the companions of the injured man would be to try to mark their position a bit better visually. Make a big X or cross with branches and/or stones, something more visible from the air to aid in being spotted. Obviously they were found, but sometimes it's not that easy to see a hiker from the air.
    Great job, though.

  4. Dude probably overpacked his stuff. Even in this situation, his buddy wasn’t going to help carry his gear lmao he made sure of it!

  5. That spin. Oof. Im no SME here but there are things that can be done to mitigate that spin. If they could not do a dynamic extract (hoisting while the aircraft is in slow forward flight) then the rescuer should be on the ground with a tagline.

  6. How many souls have been in their darkest hour with all hope running out only to hear the chop chop sound of a UH-1 HUEY and their brave crews willing to fly through hell and back so that others may live. It brings tears to my eyes to know that these helicopter crews and this helicopter even in its more modern civilian versions is still an Angel with rotors.

  7. Dudes wanted a ride in the helicopter too!
Like yeah I dunno if we can take his stuff back down the trail you know, it's kinda steep and snowy and risky.. -Well I can't take you in the helicopter.
Actually, nevermind we don't need your services no more sir.

  8. What do these older dudes in their 50's acting like 20 think was going to happen, there comes a time where enough is enough, So we risk the lives of these rescue workers with no accountability of the rescue-ee? This is so stupid, HATS OFF to the rescue crew. I'm sick and tired of watching overweight, out of shape or older aged people getting into these jams. Join a gym and save us all the aggravation.

  9. Those two guys could’ve split that gear up easily. If it was me I would’ve packed it out no questions asked.

  10. I would probably just sit down there and suffer instead of going up to the heli, like sure this shit is safe but theres always a little chance of things going wrong and that scares me, doesn't matter what it is

  11. really if you start to spin like that, all I guess you can do is close your eyes and KEEP them closed til you reach the helicopter, right?

  12. Poor rescue is having to deal with whining from the guys on the ground because they don't want to take their buddy's gear. Split it up and deal with it. No carry on luggage!

  13. That my friends takes a special person with big old brass balls to be on a helicopter rescue crew. I knew many like this while in the Navy, they always had my respect!
