The Woodbury County Sheriff released dash cam video of the pursuit and roll over crash near Salix, Iowa Tuesday. The video shows a deputy attempt to pull over a sedan traveling west on K35. break lights for the car turn on but it never stops. Authorities say 36 year-old Justin derby of Onawa, Iowa, was behind the wheel. Deputies added Derby was driving with a barred license.

The video continues with the vehicle, with four other passengers inside, running a stop sign as the car turned left on Old Highway 75 in Sloan. you can hear the deputy say “he blew the stop sign” in the video. Speeds in the chase reached 117mph according to authorities as Derby attempted to shake the deputy giving chase. Both Derby and the deputy passed multiple vehicles on the road. The chase came to a halt in Salix. As Derby is passing a semi, he has to swerve to avoid an oncoming semi and loses control of the vehicle. The deputy then can be heard saying “rollover” as the car somersaults three times before landing right-side up in a mucky field.

The rollover happens at the 5:54 mark in the video. Miraculously, all five people in the car lived. Two were taken to the hospital to be treated for undisclosed injuries. The chase for Derby didn’t end after the crash. Video shows him climb out of the car and make a dash for it on foot. The deputy can be heard getting out of his vehicle and then is seen giving chase. The video ends with both Derby and the Deputy running across the top of the screen in the field.

The deputy tracked Derby to a filthy pond where authorities say he jumped in to avoid being caught. They were able to coax him out and he was then taken in to custody but, not before being sent to the hospital. “Just to be checked over and be decontaminated from being in the sewage lagoon,” said Tony Wingert, with the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office. Derby will face a slew of charges as well.

  1. I just found these police chase videos on YT recently and have watched a few of them, but after a while it gets hard to watch them because these idiots are just plain stupid and who wants to watch stupid….

  2. Perp: "BEEEEEEEEEEEEES! BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! STINGING MY FACE! BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!"

  3. That such an inordinate number of people think fleeing from the police is a great idea causes me to wonder how much their reasoning is influenced by movies, TV and video games. Their poor judgement probably reflects their poverty. Per capita the US leads the Western world in poverty. Shameful given the unrelenting hubris.

  4. I have a great idea! Let's put on pants that don't fit, no belt, wear them around our knees…..then go break laws and try to run! 🤣

  5. What is with these idiots? High speed chases never ever end well for the suspects unless they give up, even then it's added more charges, and then, they wreck the vehicle and if not injured or killed, try running away with their britches hanging around their knees like they already prepared for bubba when they go to the pokie 🤣😂😅🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

  6. THE DAY OF THE FECAL

All through the chase the passengers cheered, all yelling go faster, then those two semi trucks put everything into slow motion, head over heals they went until it stopped upright and now they're cussing him out. Seeing that his cheerleaders are pissed, he pulls his pants up, does a running jump and off he goes to the derby. Passengers don't plan on running, but they all know what that nasty smell is and know it would be hard to run with a nasty heavy stinky load in their breaches!

    THE END

  7. Nice of the driver to leave his accomplice stuck in a car that looks like it could catch fire at any stage. Going head on with a big rig ( So dumb & so dangerous )
