For something “standardized” there sure is a lot of misunderstanding surrounding the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Can you pass them? Are they even pass / fail? What happens if you refuse? How scientific are they? And why can’t the silly Americans get with the program and use a handheld breathalyzer instead of roadside gymnastics?

If you thought that this paragraph was going to provide answers, you thought wrong. That would make the spirited debates in the comments section far less entertaining! Instead, I will simply introduce you to today’s contestant.

Meet Robert Ford, MA.

  1. This officer may very much save this man’s life drunk driving on a motorcycle is absolutely insane and would’ve killed him kudos to the officer

  2. I mean really, if you can't recite the alphabet or count backwards you probably can't also know whether you understand the rights. I give the cop five out of five stars for hanging in there with him.

  3. Wow…. I didn't know there were options to "go home" after arrest for a DUI…especially when you can't even understand simple commands…I'm not sure this guy wouldn't get back on his bike or in the car and go out again since he can't seem to do the simplest of tasks. While I think this was a nice option the officer gave…I'm not sure I've ever seen any police officer do this…even with their colleagues .."the laws the law"… which either they should all do this…book you if you're a jerk and let you go he if you're not…or just keep being the a-holes most of them are. I dint think it should be up to their discretion..just sayin..cuz I don't think that's how it works.

  4. "Do you have anything sharp in your pockets?"
    "Ummmm….."
Apparently that question right there makes for a good sobriety test.

  5. So the drunk jackass gets arrested for drunk driving, acts like an entitled baby and gets a ride home instead of jail? Did the officer tuck him in also?? Pathetic

  6. I hate to say it, but this cop is an idiot. This guy was incapable of understanding a single instruction during the FSTs. How can the cop not get that he really can't understand his rights? He's not being a jackass – he's just incredibly drunk!

  7. I think the cop violated his rights by saying if you don't be a ass hole or give me your phone number, well I'll just keep you. ( Not a quote but basically) Either follow the law or apply for a food service job.

  8. 😎😎😎 A non alcoholic would just ask for the breathlizer tests and cut through all that bull💩 they put you through.
