The short version is that I had no intention of publishing this footage… until Benzino changed my mind.

Lil Nas X was the main event at the BET Music Awards in June 2021, where he performed his hit single “Montero.” He closed out that performance by kissing one of his male dancers. I know, right? Oh, heavens. What has the world come to. Two grown men kissing each other on TV? On BET, that last bastion of morality on cable? Someone had better call Benzino. He always has misplaced outrage to spare. I mean, his kid could see that and turn gay himself! Or even worse, he might become tolerant of people who are differen. Maybe even accepting! No! Benzino needed to step up and Parent.

He took to Instagram: “That s# BET pulled yesterday was lame asf. It was too uncomfortable, too irresponsible, too forced and too irrelevant to the awards. Homie ain’t even hot like that for music anymore anyway. It’s a shame what all this is comming [sic] to.” Taking inspiration from luminary of love Louis Farrakhan, Benzino even referred to Lil’ Nas’ music as “Satanic.”

“I bought ol town road for ZINO [his son], he knows every word but all the satanic s#. I’m just not with. I mean how do you explain s# like this to your kid? I got nothing but respect and love for the gay community but that ain’t it, I could see if he was pooping [huh?] but it was unexpected and unnecessary. I didn’t care for the Madonna kiss either. I could see if they way dating. Now I hope I don’t offend anyone because this post wasn’t meant for that. It’s just my opinion of the production. Only God judges.”

Benzino subsequently learned that there are, in fact, judges other than the big dude in the sky. He caught a lot of well-deserved heat and deleted his own Instagram post. Then Instagram deleted his account, though I am not sure if that was in relation to this particular incident. Believe it or not, I rarely pay attention to the guy.

But I did see his subsequent doubling-down non-apology apology interview. Which prompted me to revisit the Red Roof Inn footage. It was exactly as I had remembered. This is it.

And yes, I understand that two men sharing a motel room does not mean that they had their own Montero. To loosely quote Benzino, “It’s the optics of the situation.” Couple that with the reality that he contrasted himself and his companion to an imaginary white couple named John and Bill Summerfield (who for some reason are exempt from checkout times) along with some other clues, and I guess it’s possible that they were just planning Benzino’s next diss track. But, y’know, the optics.

Benzino, gay people were definitely around when you were younger. The “movement,” as you call it, has existed for a remarkably long time. (Approximately forever, give or take a few years.) I am sorry if you didn’t get to be yourself—I don’t know what that’s like, but it sounds pretty terrible. The thing is, that doesn’t excuse the way you act. Times have changed, man. Get with them. For your own sake, if not for everyone else’s.

In the words of the great Ali G, “Without realness, we is nothing.”

Peace.

  1. The Incident

On 06/01/2018 at approximately 1:00 P.M., officers with the Brookhaven Police Department were dispatched to a report of a disorderly person at the Red Roof Inn at 1960 North Druid Hills Road, in Brookhaven, Georgia. On their arrival, a motel manager stated that the guests in room 206, Raymond Scott and his companion, were supposed to check out of their hotel room at 11:00 A.M., but they were still in their room two hours later, at 1:00 P.M. Management stated that they had told the men that it was time for them to leave, and that Scott responded by becoming disruptive and agitated.

When officers arrived at room 206, Benzino was standing outside the door with two suitcases. According to police “Scott seemed agitated and stated to me that he was about to leave. Officer Bryant and I stood outside the door as Scott and [his companion] packed up their things and made their way to their car. When the two had left their room, Officer Bryant and I walked downstairs to the office where the general manager, Robert Allen, stated that he wanted them criminally trespassed from the business.”

“I attempted to speak with Scott about the criminal trespass warning, however he began to speak over me and took an agitated tone. Allen then arrived and stated that he did not want Scott on the premises any more. Scott became even more agitated when I tried to explain the criminal trespass warning to him. Scott and [companion] then drove off the premises. Bodyworn camera was active.”

    The Long Backstory

Q: About those, what’s with the body cameras?

A: Tell me about it. This video was captured early in Brookhaven Police Department’s evaluation of different camera manufacturers. They picked the right brand to not go with, that's for sure.

Q: What’s with the weird artifacts in the center of the screen?

A: Ah, the reason it took 8+ months to publish this.

So, I have had these videos since October 2020, and until July 2021, I had no intention of ever publishing any of them. Sure, it was another story about Benzino losing his shit, but that is not my threshold for publication, and I didn’t believe that intruding on Benzino's motel sleepover was warranted.

After the BET Music Awards, Benzino changed my mind.

Here is what you need to know: Lil’ Nas X is the stage name of rapper / singer Montero Lamar Hill, who is probably best-known for his hit single “Old Town Road.” That track holds the all-time record for the longest streak in the number one Billboard slot. Ever. Lil Nas X has won multiple Grammys, and he is is the first openly gay black artist to win a Country Music Association award. If you haven’t already seen it, watch the music video for Old Town Road. There’s a reason it has nearly one billion views.

I mean, let's be real. His kid could see that and turn gay himself. Or even worse, his kid might become tolerant of people who are different from him. Maybe even accepting! Benzino had no choice but to take action.

He took to Instagram: "That s# BET pulled yesterday was lame asf. It was too uncomfortable, too irresponsible, too forced and too irrelevant to the awards. Homie ain’t even hot like that for music anymore anyway. It’s a shame what all this is comming [sic] to.”

In the words of the great Ali G, "Without realness, we is nothing."

Q: But Benzino said “I don’t have a homophobic bone in my body!” You're responding as if he said the opposite.

A: As a self-proclaimed authority on Benzino's interactions with the police, it is my expert opinion that Benzino has a bit of a credibility problem.

If you're new here, the basis of my self-appointment is that to some extent, I am the reason Benzino has been in the news. Real World Police was the first media outlet anywhere to report Benzino’s:

    rwp.yt/eviction
    rwp.yt/racisttirade
    rwp.yt/noinsurance
    rwp.yt/parentinglecture

And let’s not forget my hit single: “Pork Fried Rice Face, feat. Benzino.” Which got demonetized, age-restricted, and buried by YouTube faster than you just read this sentence. Check it out:

    rwp.yt/riceface

    Okay. Back to the story.

To the extent Benzino claims he is not homophobic, Benzino’s Twitter feed suggests otherwise. I picked out a dozen or so of his recent Tweets, all from within the last week or two. He calls more people "fags" in a week than I have heard the word used anywhere in the last year. You decide what's in the guy's bones: rwp.yt/bzt

Q: You still didn’t explain the artifacts on the screen.

    A: You're right. We’re almost there.

Benzino’s comments about Lil Nas X resulted in my consideration of, and ultimately invocation of the Frank Rule. If you are a public figure and you use your position to promote intolerance and attack others’ private lives, don’t be surprised when scrutiny turns toward that same aspect of your own life. You asked for it.

I know, I know. The artifacts.

I was considering publishing this footage, but there was a problem. Because Brookhaven Police Department hadn’t gone with this body camera manufacturer, the company had plastered an enormous watermark across the center of the screen: the contracting officer at Brookhaven Police Department’s email address. I didn’t want that in this video, both because it’s obnoxious (though not more than Benzino) and because I didn’t want the guy to get spammed.

Thus began my eight-month effort to remove a static foreground object from four videos. I had no idea what I was getting myself into.

First, because I was trying to remove a very loud watermark, experts were initially hesitant to help. Fortunately, I had an email from Brookhaven Police Department literally asking me to blur the watermark so the email address wouldn't be legible, and Georgia law is pretty clear that anything paid for with public funds is public. No matter whose email address is slapped across the middle.

Second, because it’s a lot harder than you’d think.

-Mocha Pro? Can’t do it unless everything else is planar, though you’d be forgiven for thinking that it could.

-After Effects Content-Aware Fill? Very hit-or-miss

    -Resolve Studio? Can’t do it.

-PFClean Remove Rig? Meh, and it’s stupid expensive.

I tried everything I could throw at this short of manually fixing each frame. Conceptually, I still think there should be a way to do it with motion keying, but after months of on-and-off work, I reminded myself not to allow the perfect be the enemy of the good.

What you see here is the best I was able to squeeze from After Effects. When Content-Aware Fill works, it works well. When it doesn’t work, it looks like those artifacts. The end. Now you know.

    Peace.

  2. You're on private property they have no reason to ask you what is going on all that matters is the manager said they want you trespass. That means you leave there is no his side your side their side it is you're not welcome on that property you leave. Really pisses me off when people like you pull the race card at every time you don't get your way because you got to cry like a little baby

  3. The "movement" about being gay…55 and that didn't happen back then??? My uncle has proudly been with his husband for 55 years!

  5. This man is down bad staying in that raggedy motel🤦🏾‍♀️ so delusional with major anger problems!!!! His friend was respectful and non confrontational. BENZINO THE BOZO!!!!

  6. Well.. I agree with his take on the filth that is known as lil nas x. I don’t agree with his idea of racism, or staying at the Red Roof Inn.

  7. Black people have ordered Benzino to turn in his Black card, that he clearly likes to try and pull on anyone attempting to de-escalate his "assholedom"

  8. the guy working at the hotel and even the cops are blacker than he is, but he's still "being discriminated against because i'm black"

  9. Yall he mad cause yall interrupted his they shower. Red roof Inn?? Laughing my mask off.. Homophobic cause he handling his bizness in that room..

  10. “Benzino :Music and Media Mogul”, staying in a Red Roof Inn….. The Jeremy Dewitte of Music and Media Moguldom this guy, the gift that truly keeps on giving.

  11. He keeps saying “this wouldn’t happen if we were a white couple”

Is he insinuating that he’s a couple with that make companion he was with 😂😂😂 otherwise why he keep comparing themselves to a couple hahaha

  12. Someone let the officer know his battery for his radio is dying. So this fella claims he is a celebrity? Dude is famous for being on Real World Police, that’s how I know who this guy is 🤣. And why is he making this a race issue?

  13. "Times have changed, man. Get with them. For your own sake, if not for everyone else's."
Satan is changing the times, for his sake, haha, you might want to go against the grain for your sake.

  14. Dude is a catastrophic mess. Period. He is all over the place with this crap

Put the pipe down and grow up! 😑🙄
