Atlanta, Georgia — On April 17, 2024, officers responded to the area of Conkle Road and Mount Zion Road in Morrow, Georgia in reference to an ambulance that was stolen from Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge, Georgia. The suspect, later identified as 27-year-old La’Darius Williams, was being treated at the Hospital before he stole a private Amerimed ambulance from the facility and drove away. Paramedics were still in the ambulance when it was taken and chose to bail out of the moving vehicle.

Upon arrival, the Atlanta Police Department’s Auto Crimes Enforcement Unit coordinated with the Georgia State Patrol in an effort to disable the recklessly driving ambulance. The pursuit spanned multiple jurisdictions where a number of attempts were made by officers and troopers to disable the stolen vehicle. Over the course of the pursuit, Williams who was operating the stolen vehicle, ignored traffic controlled devices, law enforcement vehicles, and intentionally struck a number of civilian and police vehicles. The pursuit eventually lead to a residential area where an Atlanta police officer was able to successfully deploy a Stock Stick device which deflated the tires on the stolen ambulance.

Despite the tires being deflated on the ambulance, the suspect continued to lead officers on a chase along Tara Boulevard where Georgia State Patrol troopers utilized a PIT maneuver which sent the ambulance careening across the roadway, along a grassy median, and into a concrete utility pole where the vehicle was finally disabled. Immediately following the crash, Williams exited the vehicle and took flight from officers on foot. After a brief foot chase and with the assistance of officers from multiple jurisdictions, Williams was apprehended without further issue. Williams was formally placed into custody by Georgia State Patrol troopers and was transported to the Clayton County Jail for processing.

  2. I had my ambulance stolen 9-27-2001 from the hospital. A chase ensued. It was ended prior to the suspect getting on I-95. This chase should have ended in the cul-de-sac. That's embarrassing. That ambulance should have been approached from the front and rear, rammed if necessary. It would have been a low speed impact since he was turning around. My opinion, the officers did not want to mess up there patrol car. 🤦‍♂

  3. That one officer with that perfect spike strip toss and the officer who drew his taser while jumping the guardrail both did not come to play.
