Webb County, Texas — On July 9, 2023, a smuggler led TXDPS Troopers on a high-speed pursuit involving a Chevy Suburban on US-83 in Webb County. The driver evaded through neighborhoods reaching speeds of 90 mph. During the pursuit, a white Volkswagen Jetta interfered with the pursuit by blocking Troopers from pursuing the Suburban. The driver of the Suburban bailed out near the river and swam to Mexico. Two illegal immigrants were apprehended and referred to US Border Patrol. The driver of the Volkswagen attempted to evade Troopers but crashed. The driver, from Laredo, was arrested and charged with evading arrest, smuggling of persons, and interfering with public duties.
