Kalamazoo, Michigan — On April 15, 2023, a 50-year-old male was working on his neighbor’s van and the van fell off the jack trapping him beneath the vehicle. Initially, the male subject was talking, however, due to the van compressing his upper torso, he went into cardiac arrest with no pulse or breathing. He was under the car for approximately 10 minutes. Sgt. Hutson, Sgt. Mireles, PSO Baldwin, and PSO Brink lifted the van off the male while Sgt. Luthy pulled him to safety. CPR was immediately started, and they were able to reestablish a pulse and breathing.

  1. I remember putting in a transmission one time by myself and the damn thing fell off the transmission jack and landed on top of my chest. Good thing it wasn’t heavy to push off. But I couldn’t imagine a whole vehicle!😳

  2. Ok that’s great they picked up the vehicle off of him but the drag him to help him. Don’t get me wrong I’m glad they got him out.

  3. This won’t make the MSM news: but you LEOs are heroes everyday….some bad LEOs ? Yeah…but they eventually weed themselves out…thank you!!

  4. FYI, never ever trust a jack to hold when you’re working under a car. A pin hole sized hole in a O ring can drop the car on you. Always use jack stands or ramps and always chock your wheels.

  5. Don't go under a vehicle without stands. Use wood blocks to distribute the weight and be conscious that it could still sink.

  6. Always use jackstands when working under your vehicle, and make sure it's on solid, flat, level ground.
I hope this guy makes it. Being a car guy, I've had this happen to a friend, and have heard tons of stories.
