Los Angeles, California — On February 3, 2024, at 2:14 p.m., Central Division uniformed officers responded to a radio call of an “Assault with a Deadly Weapon,” at the 600 block of Towne Avenue. The comments of the call indicated the suspect was under the influence and armed with a stick threatening employees. When officers arrived at the location, they met with the Person Reporting (PR). The PR stated the suspect entered the business on the 4th floor of a warehouse, located at the 800 block of East 7th Street and told the PR to leave the location. The PR, who was in fear, left the business and contacted the police.

The PR told the officers the suspect had access to sharp items and metal objects inside the business. The PR signed a Private Persons Arrest for Trespass and directed the officers to the 4th floor. Once on the 4th floor, the officers observed the suspect inside the business and ordered him to exit with his hands up. The suspect initially complied then turned and charged toward the officers with a white object protruding from the bottom of his clenched right hand, which was held at chest level. The officers deployed less lethal toward the suspect, which was ineffective. The suspect continued to advance toward the officers with the object still clenched in his right hand. The suspect grabbed one of the officers and the Beanbag Shotgun she was holding, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and brought to the ground, where he was taken into custody without further incident. The officers rendered aid to the suspect until the arrival of the Los Angeles Fire Department personnel. The suspect was transported by rescue ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The object possessed by the suspect, believed to be a knife, was later determined to be a white plastic fork. The suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Jason Maccani. The item was recovered at scene and booked as evidence. No other community members were injured as a result of this incident. A supervisor, who was with the officers when the incident occurred, sustained a laceration to his right hand. The supervisor was treated for his injury at a local hospital and released.

  1. Cops nowadays need a lot more training. Even an idiot like me knows that having all those officers clumped up like that was dangerous as hell.

  2. I remember in middle school a kid stabbing another kid with a spoon after he lost at Spoon Wars. Blood everywhere in the cafeteria. Shap objects are sharp no matter the material it's made of.

  3. Issue with less than lethal rounds is the sound mimics a firearm. In a situation in which you have a non complaint subject attacking officers with their firearms pointed at him will never end well.

  4. I'm surprised with the 911 system that you can't send them pics & videos of the suspects at this point.

You're stuck describing them when you can send them physical media that could be distributed to responding Officers that are well worth having before going into the call.

  5. Assault spork violence is out of control in America. I hope they make more laws and spork-free zones to keep us safe. 🙏

  6. People. I work security at a majority hospital. I have to monitor and security dangerous patients. I have seen first hand what a plastic utensil can do. Ive seen a nurse have her face permanently disfigured by a broken spoon.

  7. And, as usual (even though it's not in the subtitles), at 2:11 you can hear (and see) him saying "Shoot me!"
Why are people always so eager to have the police shoot them?

  8. Unfortunately, this is becoming very common throughout L.A. Given the fact that there’s lots of meth and fentanyl widely available throughout San Francisco, LA, Portland, and Seattle, it’s going to be common to see stuff like fentanyl and meth psychosis. In addition to the fact that a quarter of the homeless population has some type of Schizoeffective disorder.

  9. Funny how a plastic fork is enough to shoot someone but if someone is attacked and they shoot someone they go straight to jail unless there’s a video

  10. LAPD is just hiring anyone with a pulse now huh? What awful police work. "Let me get back up, officer needs help!" There literally SEVEN cops there for one guy. How pathetic.

  11. 7 lol cops wearing protective bulletproof vest and kill some guy with a fork????
You could hear it in their voice that they have no clue what the heck they’re doing …..and still ask why we get nervous when we get pulled over
