Las Cruces Police Officer Shoots Pit Bull Attacking Her – Everything Law and Order Blog

This video is not for the squeamish.

Shortly after 9 a.m. on Monday, December 25, 2017 an officer with the Las Cruces Police Department was investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle parked behind a closed Goodwill store at 1240 South Valley Drive in Las Cruces, New Mexico, when she was attacked by a pit bull. As the dog charged at the officer and attempted to bite her, the officer fired at – and struck – the dog.

The pit bull was taken to an emergency veterinarian for treatment but was subsequently euthanized.

  1. It's very sad but the officer did what she had too I feel sorry for dog and officer just my opinion. 😔😔

  2. To the officer that shot the dog…….you clearly got attacked…..I personally have been attacked by a dog but being in Australia and only being a general citizen myself I was unable to use a gun…but In your part of the world and your work profession, i believe that you did what ya had to do mate👍…..and you also showed how sorry and shitty about what you had to do. You are good officer and human 😇

  3. I think that person qith the pit had them like a gaurd dog because i own two pits one she would jump at you playful with her tounge wagging her tail as fun cause shes entergetic my other pit the same but instread will bite you we understand to not bring him in public without a muzzle and leash bc hes defensive over us if you know your pit is like that dont bring them places where its public,

  4. The gun is the last option. Bad training. She take a bad decision, and open the door without any care. Very bad, no a professional actitude, and lie, the dog never bite the hand, if the dog bite the hand everyone knows put her on the floor, just jumping and play. In other cases I understand the officers when they have no option to shoot a dog. And first use pepper spray, then taser, and …at last shot

  5. If the cop didn’t shoot she would’ve been bitten that dog went straight at her, she asked if the dog was nice he gave no response and saw his dog chasing and biting at her. That’s all on the dog owners, no blame should be put on the cop

  6. That’s what happens when you don’t train your dog. The dog will suffer for the humans mistakes. I learned that the hard way.

  7. Total bullshit on the owners part, they were so damn irresponsible dog owners and caused the dog it’s life, the officer did the right thing.

  8. Or she could have just let them dig in the trash… am a minimum ANNOUNCE YOURSELF!!! Cops just creep up on people then ask why there so jumpy

  9. Always shoot first with pit bulls. It’s too dangerous to wait and see if they’re friendly. Better safe than sorry.

  10. I feel a couple of things should have been different, in order to have had a better outcome. One, leash laws are laws for a reason. In this case if their dog had been on leash and the leash anchored to something the outcome would have been different. Pretty much every dumpster (including the one here) has a metal ''bar'' that sticks out on both sides near the front of the dumpster. It's real simple, you just place that loop/handle on your dogs leash over that bar while you're dumpster diving. The second thing that could have kept this from happening is for the officer to identify herself BEFORE opening that door. In my experience, most officers are very familiar with the dumpster divers and know that many of them have a dog with them, thus the respect of announcing her presence and giving the dog owner the chance to secure his dog. I watched the dogs body language and simply saw (initially)a relaxed wagging tail. The moment the officer saw a pit she says ''ooo shit''. As Cesar and most all dog trainers will say….they often will respond to our vibe. Would I have felt like this officer did as soon as I'd seen it was a pit…yep, probably, for a second. Seeing his tail position, and that he didn't come out charging, I probably would have used my soft sweet woman voice and said, hi sweetie, what a good dog, instead of ''ooo shit''. Once the dog attempted to bite I feel pepper spray would have been a good choice, but I think she panicked and went for her gun instead. That said, if instead of an armed officer what if that had been a Walmart employee taking out the trash? I think a serious mauling may have taken place. Poor dog, (and it's owners), hell of a price to pay for what a leash would have prevented.

  11. Umm, she killed it for little reason. The dog didn't gravely attack her, it was just excited and surprised and a little violent.
I mean I get it, it could have become a dangerous situation, but she did have a 🔫. The dog could've been saved is all I'm saying.

  12. She opens up the gate on PRIVATE PROPERTY, Dog does what it is supposed to do, she shoots it, then has no remorse..

  13. I honestly feel bad as fuck for whoever had to witness that including the owners and even the cop, but yeah she did what she had to do since the dog instantly went after her, but it wouldn’t have happened if people used leashes ;-; and if you have a dog that’s protective as fuck might as well use a muzzle in public too ._. kinda common sense, sad that shit like this has to happen cause people lack it

  14. I feel bad for the people that got their dog shot but the dog was biting at her so I really don’t blame her for defending herself

  15. This is now the 3rd or 4th video I’ve seen of an officer using a smith and Wesson and it jamming on them. Glock is the way to go

  16. The officer was on the right she had to do what she had to do to defend her self The dog was attacking typical homeless crackheads owners blaming someone when their dog is vicious 👍🏼👮🏼
