Burbank, California — The Burbank Police Department released video in fatal police shooting of 30-year-old David William Kahler of Las Vegas. The fatal shooting happened at about 5:20 a.m. March 8 at the Quality Inn Burbank Airport, 2255 N. Buena Vista Street after police were called out for reports of a child wandering the parking lot alone in shorts and without shoes. The investigation has revealed that the young child, an 8 year-old boy, was the step-son of Mr. Kahler. The child has since been reunited with his biological mother, with the assistance of the Department of Children and Family Services, and they have returned to Nevada. The child was with Mr. Kahler, with the permission of the mother.

The investigation has also revealed that neither Mr. Kahler nor the child had any connection to the Quality Inn or the City of Burbank. Based on video footage, as well as officer and witness statements, the investigation has revealed that Mr. Kahler pointed a loaded semi-automatic handgun at the officer, which precipitated the officer involved shooting. Evidence shows that Mr. Kahler did not discharge the firearm which was in his possession. Only one officer discharged his firearm. The firearm recovered from Mr. Kahler was reported stolen in Las Vegas. At the time of his death, Mr. Kahler was on probation in the State of Nevada and had an extensive criminal history. The crimes included burglary while in possession of a firearm, domestic violence, narcotics violations, and theft.

  1. One of the saddest police shootings I’ve seen on this channel. Praying for both the kid and the cops that had to go through this.

  2. And now he’s going to grow up hating the guts of anyone who puts on a badge that says police or any symbol of law enforcement. Thanks again capitalism !

  3. My heart hurts for that boy. He will NEVER forget that day. I hope he understands his step dad was in the wrong and doesn't blame the police.

  4. I this a kid cry cause they watch a dead beat pos parent get shot it makes me cry for the kid but violently angry at the parent, the only thing bad about this mans death is the coward did it in front of his kid… God be with the kid from now on and may he grow to understand that his dad is the only one to blame…

  5. Nobody mentioning that the father is the biggest coward in this situation how could you pull a gun on a police officer in front of your kid thats either getting murdered in front of them or murdering someone else in front of him or in the worst case scenario the kid gets caught in the crossfire idk if the dad survived but he's in a special place in hell if he passed away.

  6. Tbh if some ppl ran up on me wit a flash light in my face behind my kid tryin to get in the car I’d pull mine too. That kids gonna hate y’all. Worthless approach.

  7. Mom must be brain-dead for letting this POS criminal, druggie take her kid from Vegas to Burbank in a stolen car. A few minutes before the shooting, he had crashed the stolen car. Then he and the little boy walked to Quality Inn where he tried to steal several cars before, finally stealing that red Honda that he was shot in. By the way, he had stolen the loaded gun in Vegas as well. I really hope that the little boy gets some serious counseling.
