The NYPD has released body-worn camera and CCTV footage related to an officer-involved shooting that took place on October 22nd, 2023, within the confines of the 44th Precinct.

Following a 911 call reporting a man wielding a weapon around 2:38 PM on Sunday, October 22, 2023, near East 162nd and Grand Concourse, police began their investigation.

During the investigation, the suspect identified as Rafael Camarena, 44 years old, appeared at the location. Upon the officers’ approach, Camarena fled on foot and discharged his firearm at the officers, leading to the occurrence of the officer-involved shooting.

Camarena fired a total of 6 shots at the officers, while Police Officer Burnett discharged a total of 4 shots. Fortunately, no one was hit by the gunfire.

Following an extensive investigation, Camarena was located and subsequently arrested without any further incident.

Camarena is charged with:
-4 counts of Attempted Murder
in the First Degree (police Officer),
-4 counts of Attempted Aggravated
Assault Upon a Police Officer,
-4 counts of Attempted Assault In
First and Second Degree,
-Criminal use of a Firearm in
the First Degree, and related charges.
