San Diego, California — At 8:50 p.m. on July 23, 2021, the San Diego Police Communications Center received a call of a possible shooting in the area of 5900 University Avenue. The caller said a man had been shot and was running away. Patrol officers arrived a short time later and found a 29-year-old man a block away who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital where he underwent surgery and is listed in stable condition. Witnesses provided a suspect vehicle description and direction of travel. The San Diego Police helicopter found a vehicle matching the description given by witnesses and directed officers into the area. The patrol officers stopped the vehicle near 54th Street and El Cajon Boulevard. Three suspects remained in the vehicle, but one individual ran from the car.

Officers and the helicopter crew saw the man with a gun in his hand, he was identified by police as 22-year-old Jesus Valeta. He disregarded several commands to stop and drop the weapon. He was eventually confronted behind a fast-food restaurant and an officer-involved shooting occurred. Two San Diego Police Officers discharged their service weapons and Valeta was struck at least once. He was taken to a local hospital but succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The firearm Valeta was carrying was recovered, and two additional firearms were found in the Valeta’s vehicle. Investigators from the San Diego Police Homicide Unit were called to the scene. The investigators are in the process of collecting evidence from both scenes as well as interviewing the other suspects and witnesses. It also appears the suspects were involved in another shooting at 5:04 p.m. near Belmont Park.

  1. I’m confused why he didn’t shoot him when he was a foot away from him? Instead yelling “drop the gun” where he could’ve easily shot him right there..

  2. Why didnt they tackle him? Lol he(cop) basically touched his head with the barrel of his gun, couldve kicked or tripped him, even when he went down couldve ran up with a kick. But no they look for a reason toshoot to kill now.

  3. the end 🤮🇺🇸 China los hará mierda a los EEUU 🏴‍☠️

  4. That was the most movie fall ever lol, he gets shot and is just like "ah! I've been shot! Bleh" and then splays out on the floor after a dramatic collapse

  5. Umm how about he was in the process of dropping the gun.if I'm wrong then they should have shot him alot more times but it looked like he was trying to comply .

  6. I never really understood … what is the point of trying to run away from the police … to run away from them or try to get away in a car. their technology is developed to the point of insanity .. if you are being persecuted, then there is no point in doing anything. Why add an already long time to yourself ??? !!!!!!

  7. How can you claim to be unbiased and blatantly lie in your title? Sure, he had a gun running around in public, absolutely psychotic, but he's visibly throwing the gun at the end, not "After He Points The Gun Backwards At Them" It may have been pointed backwards because that's what tends to happen when you throw something. He attempted to throw it away from him and was shot. Also, if a pilot in the air can see the person throwing the gun then the cops sure as hell saw it too. Correct your title man.

  8. Imagine standing around and he passes by with a gun in his hand and you didn’t even know, merrrrrnnn I pray we don’t be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

  9. Que want cuando this down this cops want car watch cuando this cuando this you policia this cuando this dad you out going suspect this cuando this want you out shots fired this cuando this down this call 9-1-1 want phone this this need
