On May 21, 2018 Timothy Rice, 32, of Norton, Ohio was found and arrested on charges of inducing panic, fleeing/eluding an officer, failure to comply, obstructing official business, resisting arrest, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct. Quite the collection.
Earlier in the day an Ohio State Highway Patrol traffic enforcement aircraft had been working speed zone duty when the pilot reported seeing an ATV – driven by Rice along with a 21-year-old passenger – riding on the highway. The pilot called it in, but Rice refused to stop for responding officers. The result was a highly unusual three-mile chase on Ohio interstates 277 and 76 which ended with the ATV hitting a police cruiser and with Rice fleeing on foot. This exclusive video shows the pursuit from one of the troopers’ dash cams.
Officers from Akron, Barberton and Norton Police Departments joined state troopers in searching for Rice – with help from the state police aircraft – but it was hours before they found him.
Around 1:45 p.m., an area resident called the Norton Police to say they spotted Rice walking on Berry Road behind Greenlawn Cemetery. Barberton and Norton officers responded, found Rice and chased him on foot over the Interstate 76 overpass on Barber Road and into Wolf Creek while the Highway Patrol pilot – still working the search – directed officers to Rice.
Timothy A. Rice was taken to the Summit County Jail and was booked on the charges listed above. As of 3/1/19 Rice has appeared in court facing those charges three separate times. Following each occasion, Rice failed to reappear and had multiple warrants issued for his arrest. Since 2/1/19 Rice has been wanted on three bench warrants out of Barberton, Ohio.
*I know the sound in this video isn’t great; it was a lot worse before. Take it up with OSHP… state police agencies seem to have a thing for terrible audio equipment.

Rice is a dope. He should have stayed put in one of those wooded areas till nightfall. The OHP has better things to do with their time than driving around abandoned shopping mall parking lots and sleepy suburban neighborhoods. Rice was clearly never a fan of prison/POW escape literature, which would have told him that waiting till dark is one of the best ways of putting off pursuers. Unless the OHP was willing to mount a battalion-size operation of slightly-to-severely overweight personnel to find him, he could have practiced his E&E tactics and procedures and lived to fight another day, or rather, drive wrecklessly another day (endangering his and other lives).

Okay, this is weird. I just came across this video for the 1st time & this chase is so surreal for me. I live in this area, it happened on my moms B-Day & my dad is actually buried in that cemetery…… and my grandparents!!! He goes right by the actual grave markers. What the hell??
