Phoenix, Arizona — On July 17, 2023, Phoenix Police officers were called to a single vehicle collision in a commercial area near 7th Street and Lincoln Street. The callers told 911 operators a man, later identified as 35-year-old Armando Reyes, crashed a white vehicle into a light pole. Additional calls came in stating Reyes walked away from the collision and appeared impaired and acted erratically. One caller told operators he saw Reyes walk away from the collision and after losing sight of him, heard approximately six gunshots. When officers arrived, they found an unoccupied passenger car that had collided with a streetlight. Officers saw bullet casings inside the car and witnesses told officers Reyes left on foot, east from the collision.

Additional officers responded and helped to search for Reyes. One witness directed officers to a man walking next to the railroad tracks near 18th Street and Harrison Street who matched the Reyes’s description. Officers gave Reyes commands to get on the ground. Reyes began screaming and walking toward officers. Officers used a PepperBall Launcher to encourage Reyes to follow commands. Reyes continued to scream and started to walk away while officers moved forward with him. Reyes stopped and pulled out a gun. Officers commanded Reyes to drop the gun, but he did not comply and that’s when the officer involved shooting occurred. After the shooting, officers moved up and provided medical aid to Reyes until fire personnel arrived. Reyes died from his injuries on scene. Two firearms were recovered next to the area where Reyes was shot.

  1. I think his first choice was death by brick wall. Death by cop was the ending choice, by default.

  2. Один адекватный полицейский в начале ролика, который пытался спокойным тоном общаться! А остальные только орать и стрелять🤦

  3. what bothers me most #1 want to calm the Situation down but his triggerhappy young Collegues escalated to the max

  4. The Officers showed restraint. Tried to de-escalate. “Let him calm down” over and over. This was by the book.

  5. They could of used a officer to skydive and surprise him from above to end this peacefully. Before anybody asks yes I'm a professional armchair quarterback.

  6. Officer 1´s de-escalation verbal judo was fantastic!! The officer with the pepper-gun: SUPER A** hole 😂

  7. I swear sergeant/supervisor training is just telling them "show up & tell the officers to do the opposite of what they're doing" sheesh.

  8. Not sure who was more out of control….those officer were just chomping at the bit to escalate. Senior officer could barely contain them.

  9. Too many f'n officers talking at the same time. Only one officer should speak. Yes, I am law enforcement. Experienced in both the military and as a civilian.

  10. “Let him tire himself out.”
Great lead officer! A man with no ego and skills in deescalation is the best kind to have behind a badge. Had the guy been sober the compassion could’ve saved him.

  11. That cop was absolutely boss! He didn't feed into the chaos like that one cop did. The world needs more cops like him and less screaming at the guy who's obviously not going to listen.

  12. EVERY COP NEEDS TO BE TRAINED BY THIS GUY!!!
This is the FIRST PoliceActivity video i have seen with a cop who understands mentally effected ppl and DE-ESCALATION!
