Police Chase Of Stolen Car Ends With Crash In Elyria

Dash cam video of a high speed chase through Elyria tells a troubling story of a city in serious financial trouble.

Footage shot by the Ohio Highway Patrol shows a ten-year-old Dodge Neon driven by a car thief racing through the intersection of State Routes 57 and 113 on Sunday night, February 21.

Nearly ten seconds later, after what seems like an eternity, an Elyria police cruiser can be seen passing by. A total of four cruisers were unable to catch up to the Neon because they were in such disrepair. Chief Duane Whitely told Fox 8 most of his fleet is at least ten years old with more than 100,000 miles on the engines.

Elyria officials are hoping residents will pass Issue 6, a temporary income tax levy that will fund improvements to roads, parks, police equipment and other necessities. The tax would not apply to disability, social security or retirement incomes.

  1. I give a big thumbs up for the trooper in the lead car. Nice driving skills. I would have loved to be doing a ride along with him on this night.
