A DWI stop in Albuquerque turned into a dangerous situation when a suspect tried to kill himself by flinging himself into speeding freeway traffic. A State Police officer’s(Officer Raymundo Lujan III) training kicked in, just in time to save the life of a suspected drunk driver.

On November 1, Officer Lujan noticed a black Cadillac drive past him at a high rate of speed on I-25 near the Big-I in Albuquerque. The Officer said the driver sped up to 111 mph once he got behind the car. The driver did pull over when Officer Lujan engaged his police equipment.

Officer Lujan says he instantly got a “bad feeling” about the driver, 25-year-old Emmett Harrison.

Lujan: “Are we going to have issues? Yes or no?”
Harrison: “No.”

In lapel video, Harrison admitted to drinking that night.

Lujan: “What’s a little bit to you?”
Harrison: “I had uh…three shots.”

Officer Lujan says he also performed poorly on field sobriety tests, and Harrison can be heard voicing his concern.

Harrison: “I’m freaking out right now.”

When the handcuffs went on, things started to take a turn.

When the pat-down started, Harrison tried to make a break for it.

Officer Lujan quickly grabbed Harrison’s jacket and pulled him back onto the hood of his patrol car with the aid of another Officer. There, Harrison confessed why he was trying to get away.

Harrison: “Yeah, I want to f*** kill myself what the f***.”

DWI arrests are not rare for Officer Lujan, or State Police in Albuquerque, now totaling 661 arrests this year.

This traffic stop serves as an important reminder for Officer Lujan about the dangerousness, and unpredictability of every DWI stop.

  1. just read up on the officer. This guy has made a TON of DUI arrests, he is in the news! No WONDER is so fast, he is a DUI processing MACHINE lol

  2. If this cop wouldn't think he's above the law and everybody has to listen to every syllable he says so he can feel "in control" then he wouldn't fuck with people this much dam this is rediculous and this shyt wouldn't happen if people are scared dude duh wth type of bs is this smfh 😳🤬

  3. This dumb ass just made his jail stay longer because now he has a mandatory 72 hour mental health hold for suicide watch! He would have only stayed overnight and been released the next day sometime. If it's his first offence he would have probably been released on an (O.R.) MEANING OWN RECOGNIZANCE. If he doesn't get out on an O.R. then he most likely could bail out. But now he has a lovely minimum of 72 hours on a suicide watch, mental health hold. Good going dumbbell! But truthfully if he really does want to try and end his life, then I truly hope that he receives the help that he needs to want to keep on living.

  4. He did not seem very impaired. Cop over did it in my opinion. Kid was scared. He should have had him blow and be done. To dangerous out there.Cop put them in danger.the kid has other issues imo.

  5. To many games where they always win and life and death are not real, contests where everyone gets a prize, a lack of respect for any authority, experience, elders, or others opinions. This is what becomes of it.

  6. Part of me thinks the DUI driver getting run over would be a good thing for the public.

But the poor guy that hits him…
