While Deputy Persad is on his way to back up his partner, Deputy White radios him to stop a white van that just left his location. Deputy Persad catches up to the van and initiates a traffic stop. Believing the driver to be impaired, a DUI Deputy is called to administer field sobriety tests.

Deputy White explains that when he arrived at his call he saw the couple arguing with another man and then drove away. When a female DUI deputy arrives, Persad tells the female passenger that she is going to be searched. She denies any wrongdoing and yells at the driver thinking he snitched on her. The woman is searched and a small amount of Fentanyl/Heroin is found. She explains she has recently relapsed because of so many things going on in her life. She has never been in trouble and wants to go to rehab.

The driver completes the field sobriety tests and is found not to be intoxicated, but deputies won’t let him drive the unregistered van away.

Field testing of the drugs proved inconclusive. The deputies discuss sending drugs for lab testing, but hearing the woman’s story they decided she needs help more than jail. They provide her with information about rehab facilities. When the couple is allowed to walk away, deputies hope the woman will take advantage of the information provided.

  1. Martin County Florida is my hometown and ONE THING I CAN SAY is Martin County Sheriffs Department is A1 baby! I’ve NEVER encountered a mean/rude cop!! I got pulled over for being at the causeway late night. When the cop walked up to the car & I let my window down NOTHING BUT WEED SMOKE CAME OUT….. guess who got to go home BECAUSE OF HONESTY???? MMEEEEEEE!!! 👌 that could’ve went a completely different way if he would’ve been a mean cop!! Yes he HAD to search my car and first thing he said “if u have anymore just tell me, if u have more in here and u tell me there’s not, and I find more you’re going to jail” idc idc idc I LOVE MARTIN COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT!! ST LUCIE COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT COULD NEEVVEEEERRRR COMPARE!!! 👌💯

  2. I live in St Lucie County, next county over from these guys, if I EVER see any of those Cops out on the street, I will PERSONALLY thank them for their excellent service here.

    Great job guys!!

  3. Mcso don't want to arrest local dealers or local users, I'm only guessing it's part to go with padding the numbers making Martin county safer and only go after forign dealers

  4. Cop, who has probably lied hundreds of time if not more to people, asks why isn't she honest and just throw away her 4th Amendment rights? By the way if she had a previous drug crime then she would be in prison instead of rehab? The war on drugs is about punishment, not rehab

  5. Lost her boyfriend, lost her job, lost her house.
I imagine all of that hurts, but drugs aren't going to help you out at that point.

  6. Ah… the old syringe cap caper. To the working man that's known as a wire nut. I'm surprised a lot of cops don't know the difference.

  7. NOT ONE academic professor, or kinder/gentler liberal polititician, or counterculture shaman wouldve given this woman the break these cops gave her.

  8. Addiction is treatable unlike most violent criminals! Thank you for not treating an addict like a violent criminal in this case 🙏

  9. WOW!!!
this video just warmed my shattered heart! Seeing someone on dope, get help instead of becoming a statistic! (Jail, years of use, dead) really made me happy.
    These are some good cops!

  10. Thank you Deputy for giving this woman a chance. Had it gone the other way and she went to jail, her life most likely would have taken a downward spiral. Hopefully she is getting the help she needs. Job well done!

  11. Mad respect podig… I used for a little over 8 years non stop and been clean 20
Months this December but taking her to jail to detox in there cold turkey won’t help her at all. They should start taking people straight to rehabs instead of jails, if the people leave and you catch them on the streets again then take them to jail if you must.
