St. Paul, Minnesota — On Saturday, November 9, 2024, just after 1:00 p.m., Saint Paul police officers were called to the 1100 block of West Seventh Street on an anonymous report. The caller stated that wanted Saint Paul double homicide and armed carjacking suspect, 36-year-old Mychel Stowers was on a bicycle at a laundromat nearby. A warrant had been issued for Stowers’ arrest when prosecutors charged him Oct. 24 with the murder of his pregnant wife, 35-year-old Damara Alexis Kirkland. Officers arrived in the area and monitored the business to determine if Stowers was inside or not. While monitoring, the anonymous caller called back and stated the man on the bicycle was back and was in fact Stowers.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., the man, later positively identified by the MN BCA as Stowers, rode the bike south on Bay Street to Watson Avenue where uniformed officers in marked squad cars closed in on him. According to the MN BCA press release, Stowers produced a handgun and pointed it at the officers. Officer Jaworski and Officer Foy discharged their firearms, striking Stowers. Officers provided medical aid until St. Paul Fire Department medics arrived. Stowers was taken by ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul where he died a short time later. No one else was injured during the incident.

  2. Stowers was paroled earlier this year, in March, following his imprisonment on a second-degree murder charge for the shooting and subsequent death of a man in 2008. Though he had been living in a halfway house at the time, he was granted permission to visit his ex-wife, who he had filed for divorce from in June of this year.
