San Antonio, Texas — On August 30th, 2023, Street Crimes Unit officers were conducting surveillance at the 6800 block of Cross Spring for a suspect wanted on a warrant for Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant. Officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle fled, striking a marked patrol unit. The suspect drove the wrong way on IH 10 E access road and crashed into a civilian vehicle and then fled on foot as officers ran after him.
The suspect fired multiple rounds at the officers, striking one officer on his arm. Two officers shot multiple rounds at the suspect who continued to run down a grassy embankment onto the main lanes of IH 10 E. While on the highway, the suspect began pointing his gun and shooting at passing motorists in an attempt to gain access to a vehicle. Two officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect, striking him. The suspect, 40-year-old Michael Kirkland, was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured officer was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

This could have all been avoided if they had just properly boxed him in at the beginning.
I’m all for taking bad guys off the streets…and immediately burying them if they try to harm others…but I’m not sure how anyone cab watch this video and be all supportive and happy with the police and their actions. It’s an absolute miracle that they didn’t kill a bunch of innocent bystanders during this chase. Cops were just wildly firing pistols at ridiculous distances that most of them couldn’t reliably hit a target from at a cold range, with cars driving by the suspect, people around all over the place and the cops are just praying and spraying…dumping magazine after magazine in the general direction of the bad guy. Their enthusiasm for shooting a suspect and total disregard for the safety of the general public is very telling…it rubs perfectly parallel with the mindset of far too many officers these days..,pumped up about shooting anybody they think they have justification for shooting, and not giving a damn about the well being of the public. If joe citizen were to act with so much reckless disregard for innocent bystanders during an armed self defense encounter with someone trying to actively harm them, that citizen would be locked up and lucky if he got a chance to tell his family goodbye. But a dozen cops can run around shooting within mere feet of innocent bystanders…from 50 freaking yards…with a damn pistol! And that’s perfectly ok. No problem. Totally unacceptable. And don’t try with the ignorant “But police are highly trained professionals blah blah blah…†bull crap. Most cops never shoot their guns other than to knock the rust off at mandatory qualification times. And that’s far beyond a realistic safe distance for the vast majority of cops to even consider taking with a pistol. They care so little about the people they’re supposed to serve. Look at 5he cop who shot the man in the back the other day, with a rifle from only about 10 yards away while the man was holding his baby daughter in his arms…a rifle round can easily overpenetrate from ten yards. But the cop didn’t hesitate to take an off balance, awkward, unstable shot while moving on a man carrying an infant…it’s become common for cops to use citizen occupied vehicles for cover while exchanging fire with criminals, to disregard crowds of people in the background, behind criminals they’re wildly shooting at…and to dump round after round into vehicles when they don’t know who is inside…hell they recently collectively, with several officers all blindly rapid firing as many rounds as they could manage to squeeze off into a vehicle driven by an armed and dangerous individual who they knew had a kidnapped hostage inside the vehicle with him…. The kidnapper was taken into custody with minor injuries while the hostage, who most people would think that the cops were supposed to be rescuing, was killed instantly….riddled with bullets all over her body. And her death was quickly ruled to not be the responsibility of the police…they apparently acted within the law and their policy and are not at all liable for killing an innocent woman who was being held hostage…it’s not the fault if police that their rounds intended for the bad guy killed her and barely injured him…8 guess she shouldn’t have allowed herself to be kidnapped. I’m sure that’ll comfort her children who are now without both parents and destined to become wards of the state and they deserve no compensation according to the judge. That’s the precedent now… and that’s the common practice…the people are not important…they don’t care if you get killed regardless of circumstances. S9 you better stay the bell outta the way when they think they have legal justification to shoot…because they’ll be running to get in on it…climbing over other officers to get their shots in…and it’s up to you to keep yourself safe from them. But don’t do so in a way that any of them could ever possibly in any way perceive as the slightest little bit of a possible threat to the almighty “OFFICER SAFETYâ€.
