[As noted in the video, it would ultimately emerge that there had been no armed robbery — the original justification for the pursuit. In reality, Davis had shoplifted some paper towels and 5 Hour Energy drinks. Last but not least, the dispatcher’s conversation with a State Police supervisor is illuminating and worth listening to. The audio recording of that conversation is presented in the last ~4 minutes of this video.]

Excerpted from the report of Trooper Tanner Middlecoff: On October 3, 2020 at approximately 6:56 PM, I was at Troop C HQ when I overheard radio traffic from Jonesboro PD in reference to a robbery in progress at the Dollar General on Southwest Drive. Due to the close proximity of the call, I responded for assistance. As I proceeded west on Browns Lane Access Road, Jonesboro dispatch advised that the suspects left the Dollar General and were traveling north on Southwest Drive in a silver passenger car.

At this time, I turned around and began traveling east on E Parker Road. As I traveled through the intersection, I observed the suspect vehicle, [whose driver] was later identified as Lakita Davis, enter into oncoming traffic once again while attempting to negotiate a curve. Davis lost control of the vehicle but was able to regain control just before nearly striiking a vehicle headon, forcing a vehicle out of the traffic lane. Officer Shull then requested permission from Sergeant Davis to perform a PIT on the suspect vehicle.

Sergeant Davis advised Officer Shull not to PIT and followed up with advising Officer Shull that State Police was behind him. Officer Shull then advised Jonesboro dispatch that once I caught up, he was going to turn the pursuit over to State Police. It was at this time that I advised Troop C dispatch that the Jonesboro PD was requesting our assistance.

Officer Shull then advised that he needed assistance “ASAP” due to the suspect vehicle continuing at a high rate of speed and entering the oncoming traffic lane before running the red light at E Parker Road and S Caraway Road. After running the red light, Davis then turned north on S Caraway Road.

I turned south onto l-555 and advised Jonesboro dispatch to have officers allow me through so that I could perform a PIT on the vehicle to end the pursuit. I was then able to take lead in the pursuit as we were nearing the end of the construction area at mile marker 40. I was able to catch up with Davis near mile marker 39 to attempt a PIT.

Once traffic was clear, I began closing the distance between us once again, at which time she made the same movements, appearing to be attempting to stay in front of me. I was able to move up to her passenger side rear and make contact with her rear bumper, at which time Davis lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway to the right. At this time, I advised dispatch to start EMS due to Davis leaving the roadway at a high rate of speed.

After leaving the roadway, Davis’ vehicle traveled into a small patch of trees. Due to poor lighting. officers were unable to locate the vehicle initially. Officers were later able to locate the vehicle, which had traveled approximately 250 feet after leaving the roadway.

The suspect vehicle was overturned and had struck a tree head-on. Officer were able to extract three occupants from the vehicle. Officer Johnson with Jonesboro PD, advised the fourth occupant, Davis, was located in the driver’s seat but was unresponsive with no pulse.

  1. Wow doing that kind of speed over shop lifting??? Why would cops chase someone speeding that fast over shop lifting?? Endangering so many other people.

  2. I just can't believe those idiots went that far with their MOTHER and FAMILY in the car. Good luck getting over that guilt. All for some free shit from the dollar store. Jesus.

  3. To avoid all this carnage…… you'll cops just need to get Drones that will do the dirty work of hovering over top of high speed chases . Howz a pit maneuver at those speeds going to help…… your basically killing the person.

  4. Literally endangering more lives with this high speed pursuit over a simple theft like get the plate and identify drivers stop the chase no need to put somebody over 100mphs into the trees.. That is purely negligent and criminal for that matter.

  5. I didn't know that the police uses the pit maneuver at such a high rate of speed. I thought the speed limit for the pit is 35 mph.

  6. This guy will not shut his mouth running up and down the place saying hay it’s on them hay it’s on them you guys killed them no won else!!!!!!!!!

  7. That was totally the drivers fault. Going at those speeds with all that family in there. How was the police supposed to know that? It's time to stop blaming the police for these blatant idiots .And from a different state at that.

  8. This was so wrong! You pit a car at 126 mph? This cop caused the death, and then he’s all pumped up talking about it? Hey pal!, you are a loser, and l hope you get yours someday!

  9. Tell me how such high speed chases help society? This was reckless police costs, one dead, and how much money spent? All over a misdemeanor theft? I could see such a chase for a felony but really? Sad days.

  10. Criminal cops don't know how to be non-violent. Everywhere they go they abuse the public. They are barely trained thugs that escalate the violence inherent to policing. Qualified Immunity is why they think they can get away with anything they do to the public.

  11. I salute those officers for the fine job they did, my God, was all that worth it for those teenagers to go through that? Unbelievable!

  12. I never seen somebody so happy bout running car off the road like that . Then "question , they're judgment ! is we covered! what KINDA shit is that !!!! happy for killing these kids mother like that we all know she was in the wrong 😕then come to find out she was the one shoplifting ! Now you blaming 🙄 tha, kids for her death.

  13. Although you and your family made some very bad decisions. I am sorry about your mama..Turn your life around .

  14. A police officer killed someone over a misdemeanor crime. The police broke the law by causing them to wreck out. Then worrying about if they are covered. He already knows he’s going to jail that’s why he’s so worried about it. CYA cop you should be ashamed of yourself. There was no robbery just a misdemeanor shoplifting stop lying cop

  15. Now they want to go to the hospital where they have cops that work security so that they can cover up the fact that a cop just killed someone over a misdemeanor shoplifting.

  16. The cop just accused the passengers of the car of homicide they were passengers. The cop that caused them to crash is the who committed homicide. Then he gets congratulated on a good pit. The cop deserves life in prison!!!!!

  17. High-speed chase could kill other people just from robbing the store what is wrong with these cops isn't Mike kill somebody
