Stolen BMW Crashes Into Multiple Cars During Intense Police Chase

Lansing, Michigan — On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. Livingston County deputies attempted to stop a stolen BMW X5, eastbound on I-96 near Latson Road. The SUV failed to pull over and led deputies on a pursuit, weaving dangerously through traffic at speeds exceeding 120 mph and recklessly striking at least six other vehicles. The pursuit took a dramatic turn when two firearms were thrown from the vehicle—one clearly seen being discarded on the interstate. The chase came to a halt after the SUV collided head-on with another car at a red light near Jolly Road and Cedar Street, leaving a path of destruction across both highway and city streets.

Authorities identified the driver as a 19-year-old Lansing man, who is now facing multiple charges and remains in custody. The remaining four occupants—ages 15 to 18—were also taken into custody, with the youngest being transferred to a juvenile facility due to an existing apprehension order. The 18-year-old passenger was also jailed for violating bond conditions in a separate case. Incredibly, despite the high speeds and violent impacts, no serious injuries were reported. Police continue to search for two additional suspects believed to have fled on foot during the final moments of the pursuit.
