Maricopa, Arizona — On August 29, 2022, around 10:30 a.m., Maricopa Police Department responded to a call of a noise disturbance at a residence in the 43900 block of West McCord Drive. The homeowner, identified as 38-year-old Brian Simmons, initially approach officers to shake their hands and give them a hug. He then returns to the driveway where officers observe him grabbing a gun. Simmons did not respond to their commands to drop the guns. Eventually, an officer fires a non-lethal round and appears to hit Simmons. At that point, Simmons retreated into the house and barricaded himself.

Moments later, Simmons comes around to a side yard from the back of the house and fires one shotgun round. No one is hit. Police respond with a flurry of gunfire, at least 22 shots fired. Maricopa Police called in the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office and the SWAT Team to help out. Eventually, drones are deployed and show Simmons on the ground. A flash-bang is fired and lands within feet of where Simmons lies at 1:15 p.m., SWAT Team members approached the residence and found Simmons dead in the yard. Several homes in the area were briefly evacuated, and Butterfield Elementary School went on lockdown, and then shelter-in-place.

  1. The way the situation changed so suddenly as soon as the cop said “Aw this motherf*cker just picked up a handgun” is something just mind boggling. He comes out giving handshakes & hugs almost to apologize for what he’s about to do. You can tell the same cop that said that has obviously dealt with him before & knows how quick this guy can go from one extreme to another.

  2. This man said goodbye, Whatever situation going on when the police arrived he should have been detained. He hugged them and walked away from it all. That should have been a clue.

  3. OK THIS GUY WAS A BIPOLAR NUTCASE, UNHINGED ONE SECOND HE COMES GIVES A HUG,AND LITERLLY THE NEXT SECOND HE PICKS UP A GUN OR 2 WITH AN AXE AND GOES BALISTIC….I LOVE AMERICA LOL OUR CITIZEN ARE JUST BUILT NUTSSS

  4. Screw that, right when he touched the guns, immediate shots down range. Why so many cops are losing there lives. They’re waiting for the suspect to shoot first. These cops are to scared to use deadly force with it’s justified due to this new justice system BS we have. The chances cops give people these days is absurd…. Remember we go home at the end of the day.

  5. The Plants got watered and the Dogs ok. Great stuff.👍🇬🇧🇮🇱🇬🇧✌️

  6. I know it’s the officers that are in huge danger but I really couldn’t be the wife of one of these officers, not knowing if everyday might be the last time you see them!

  7. Never seen the ‘less lethal’ beanbag round ever be effective in gaining compliance. It’s never been effective. If anything, it’s use escalates the situation each and every time. EVERY TIME.

  8. The song was everything… his initial interaction with the 3 officers was his way of saying is OK to do whatever you have to and I don't blame you. I don't know what's going on but this is becoming a daily event when it used to be so rare it was a shock when it happened.

  9. Imagine all the neighbors having to deal with this nutjob on a daily basis. What a relief he’s dead

  10. I am genuinely confused. How are they one moment all huggy huggy and seconds after shooty shooty? . He looked like he was on those funny kind of medicaments that suspect.

  11. The setting was staged for this result. From the a great song blaring on loop to his belongings strewn all over his driveway in disarray. It was a production. His 15 minutes. Brian didn't want anything except for the pain to go away. His hugs were a thanks to the officers for showing up to do what Brian wanted. A textbook suicide by cop. I hope the officers understand they were the remedy and don't blame themselves, this was outcome Brian wanted. I don't know whether to be sad or angry, some people just have different limits. I hope Brian found some peace… I hope we all do…
