Sheldon, Illinois — On September 1, 2024, the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Department, Illinois State Police, Newton County Indiana Sheriff’s Department and the Kentland Indiana Police Department responded to the report of an alleged kidnapping in progress regarding a vehicle driven by a suspect, 37-year-old Andrew Roselius, of Ashkum, Illinois. Roselius’ vehicle was identified in rural Iroquois County and officers at the scene tried to stop the vehicle. Officers attempted to stop Roselius’ vehicle in rural Iroquois County, but he fled, crossing into Indiana and back into Illinois, where he collided with another vehicle near the Village of Sheldon.

The situation escalated when law enforcement surrounded Roselius’ vehicle, repeatedly instructing him to show his hands and exit the car. Reports indicated that Roselius ignored these commands and instead pulled out a revolver, firing a shot that struck Newton County Deputy Corporal Brandon Schreiber in the head. In response, an Iroquois County Deputy returned fire, hitting Roselius in the head, leading to his death at the scene. No hostage was found in his car. Schreiber was taken to Carle Hospital in Urbana in critical condition. He died there 10 days later on Sept. 11.

The Illinois State Police conducted a thorough investigation into the shooting and submitted their findings to the Iroquois County State’s Attorney’s Office. State’s Attorney Jim Devine later ruled the shooting as justified, stating that no further legal action would be taken.

  2. So if they go in guns blazing like trigger happy cowboys some people demonize the cops but if they wait too long and try to give the guy a chance some will say the police are too soft. You can't win sometimes if you're a cop these days….

  3. Unbelievable how long they let this guy reaching all around in his vehicle. In the meantime, the police officers were worrying more about "lease lethal" than addressing this guy who eventually took a police officers life.

  4. We see the same stuff, criminals, carjackers, ect, and it's not a real mystery what happened, they just weren't going back to prison. But everything I see about this guy means he just snapped or something. Was a first responder and farmer, who was being pursued for an alleged kidnapping but no one was in the truck with him. Mental illness I guess? Why would a guy who is supposedly a stand up guy decide to shoot at the cops? Makes no sense. All he had to do was point if he wanted to do a suicide by cop.

  5. This is so disgusting that police feel they need to coddle felons so as not to get in legal trouble. At least this is one felon that cannot be put back into society by a liberal judge.

  6. My God I was thinking the same thing!!!! They gave him enough time to read a paper and then some!!!! Sorry for the Deputy that lost his life – Unreal amount of crazies running around!!

  7. And youtube, stop FUCKING deleting my comments. Freedom of speech is a thing.

This is why you don't give criminals so many chances. The moment the criminal refused to comply with commands, it was time for swiz cheese. And not time for less lethal and playing other stupid games.

Youtube, stop deleting my comments. Freedom of speech is a thing.

I'm not saying anything different from what other people have say, why I'm being targeted but not them? Stop deleting my comments. Is stupid that I have to post several times till I manage to post a comment. One's should not have to post and wait to see if the comment is deleted or not.

  8. If he was black digging like that would shot him now he’s white they gave him all the time to search for a gun then shooting and killing a fellow officer white supremacy got bitten in the ass 101

  9. Criminal: Digging digging digging
    Police: Run around almost confused
Criminal: "Where the hell did I put that gun?!" Digging digging digging
Police: Wait. Yell useless stuff. They know he's not listening anyway. Gotta make it look good for the cameras.
    Criminal: "Ah! Found it!"
    Bang!
Police: Surprised. "Oh shit! Is he allowed to do that?!"
This is what politicians have done to our police forces

  10. There was no "right way" to do it. At the end of the day, both lives were lost and their families have to deal with that for the rest of their lives. There was faults on both sides. If the guy was innocent, then why run? Everyones complaining about the cops taking too long to deal with him. Yet if the guy would have reached for a phone instead of a gun and the cop would have mistakenly killed the guy, everyone would be in an uproar and hating the police. There was still innocent bystanders around the vehicles that were at risk of getting shot. The cops were told it was a hostage situation so of course theyre not going to go in guns blazing. The families are suffering enough as it is. Plz be respectful

  11. The suspect was a farmer, family man and a 20 year vet of the fire department. What is the story behind this incident? Mental problems? Divorce? Drugs? The cops may have been hesitant to approach because they knew him? I just don't get this one.

  12. I think a good majority of officers are bad officers that lie on their psychological evaluation and compulsively break their oath. TherFore I no longer care about the well being of a So called officer at all anymore.

  13. After so many years of watching this channel, I hardly feel anything about lives lost. In fact, i'm only critical on how dumb both the officers and the suspect were. Mostly the officers though. Suspect seemed a bit smarter. Sort of expected that outcome, even without the title, with how they just let the suspect command the situation himself. Desensitization is real.

  14. During training they tell you that you have to live with every shot you take, but you also have to live with consequences of the shots you don't take. The surviving officers are going to be carrying that weight for the rest of their lives. What a sad situation.

  15. What many in the comments fail to take into account is if they had fired while this guy was going through his junk and he didn't have a weapon they might all be facing jail sentences. This is Illinois after all which though rural is beholden to Chicago politics.

  16. To all the people in the comments wondering why they were taking their time, they were under the assumption there was a kidnapping vitcim in the car. They cant just light him up or go in too hastily. The police were doing the RIGHT thing, and one of them payed the ultimate price. But they were right in how they were attempting to operate with the information they had.
It's tragic hearing this officers final words. But from the sound of it, he was a good man who died caring for civilians and doing his best to protect them. RIP, I hope for the best for those you left behind.
