Jacksonville, Florida — On July 8, 2023, at 11:11 p.m., 39-year-old Timothy James O’Donohue texted the JSO communication center reporting a human trafficking complaint. While officers were en route to that complaint, O’Donohue called the JSO communication center, reporting a residential burglary in progress. O’Donohue told the operator that. “People were digging Under his home to gain entry.” When officers arrived at the residence in the 14,000 block of Boney Road, they spoke with both O’Donohue and a homeowner. The homeowner told the responding officers that O’Donohue had not been taking his psychotropic medication and was having a psychotic episode. The homeowner explained that O’Donohue had hallucinated both the human trafficking and burglary events.

Because O’Donohue did not present evidence indicating he was a serious threat to his own safety or to the safety of others, the responding officers could not seek his involuntary examination under the provisions of the Baker Act. As such, the responding officers returned to their patrol duties. Hours later, on July 9, 2023, at 4:32 a.m., one of the homeowners called 911, reporting that O’Donohue had set fire to part of the house. According to the homeowner, those living in the home were awakened just before 4:30 a.m. by a fire alarm sounding. The homeowners discovered O’Donohue in the living room, smoking a marijuana cigarette, holding a Taurus-style airsoft pistol behind his back. O’Donohue had set fire to the living room curtains. Using a home fire extinguisher, the male homeowner put out the fire and immediately called 911 to report the details of the arson.

In his 911 call, the homeowner told the emergency communications officer that O’Donohue was armed with a knife and an airsoft pistol. At 4:43 a.m., the responding officer arrived on scene and parked his marked patrol vehicle near a tree on the driveway. When the officer parked and exited his car, O’Donohue was standing in front of the home. The officer called out to O’Donohue to inquire about his well-being. O’Donohue did not verbally respond. Instead, he paced in front of the house and then began walking towards the officer. Standing by his patrol vehicle, the officer repeatedly called to O’Donohue to put down his knife. As O’Donohue walked further down the driveway, the officer could see that O’Donohue was armed with a knife in one hand and what appeared to be a semi-automatic pistol in the other. In response, the officer drew his service weapon and made repeated, loud verbal commands to O’Donohue to drop his gun. O’Donohue then began advancing towards the officer, still armed with a knife and the apparent pistol.

While O’Donohue charged the officer, the female homeowner screamed that O’Donohue was wielding an airsoft pistol. Then O’Donohue shot the airsoft pistol at the officer, hitting him. The officer returned fire, striking O’Donohue in his lower extremities. O’Donohue fell to the ground. While the officer attempted to put handcuffs on him, O’Donohue was extremely combative. Instead of complying with the officer’s commands to stop moving, O’Donohue continued to fight back, yell obscenities at the officer, and demand the officer shoot him. Other officers eventually arrived on scene and helped the shooting officer safely put handcuffs on O’Donohue. Fire and rescue had been staged at the scene. As such, paramedics were able to immediately render aid to O’Donohue once he was safely detained. Then they transported him to an area hospital. O’Donohue was absentee booked on charges of Aggravated Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and Arson

  1. Why the f*ck is he not in a mental hospital? There was a time not long ago when insane people were locked up for their own health and safety as well as the safety of the general public. Because of a few bad apples and horrible regulatory oversight, we threw the baby out with the bathwater.

  2. its not a GUN its an airsoft? could you have taken it out of this fools hands before the COPS come? crazy or not, the COPS cannot tell a real gun from Airsoft, those things are REPLICAS of the real, come on lady, if you knew this why didnt you remove this from him? FML these idiots parents or adults are some kind of stupid

  3. And they go down to HQ and apply to be cops all day. If you don’t have love for blue something is wrong with you. This cop didn’t deserve this. Neither did the guy if he is sig34 but when it’s down to brass tacks it’s brass tacks baby.

  4. That’s a pretty good cop. I expected a lot more shots, especially when the guy aimed at the officer. We’ll handled, stay safe.

  5. He did the right thing not trusting that stupid ass lady who wouldn't shut up 😂😂😂😂😂 I would not have waited to find out if it was real or fake.

  6. If a person says "shoot me" to police, the police should immediately be weapons free and should understand that they will not be charged in any way for use of their weapons on that individual until said individual is secured in custody.

  7. Вонючий наркоман получил по делу. Офицер , спасибо за работу!!!!

  8. Great restraint by the Officer.
He didnt have to and put himself at risk.
I didnt see anything about the Officers' years of experience, he seemed cool headed and experienced.

  9. “It’s not a gun” airsoft gun I’m from Canada so I can be incorrect

That lady is stupid and props to officer

  10. "The homeowner explained that O'Donohue had elucidated both the human trafficking and burglary events. " – the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office might want to invest in a dictionary.

  11. Regardless of if the gun was air-soft, he also had a knife. The officer was threatened with serious bodily injury or death by that guy coming at him. I would have defended myself too! Good job officer!

  12. The officer did not follow standard field procedure. If you shoot, you do to take the suspect out.

  13. It's easy for the family members to shout that he needs mental health and not to shoot or kill him, but what the hell do they expect the officers to do? Why should they risk their own life or others? Clearly they couldn't help him with his needs so they called the police because they were in fear. Police aren't psychiatrists. I would hope you would make sure they didn't have access to any weapons if they were mentally ill.

  14. Lead has proven a very reliable cure for the violently mentally ill. When administered correctly there's no further violent episodes. 👻

  15. Just like Women have the Right to Abort. Humans SHOULD have the RIGHT to a GOVERNMENT PAIDED Suicide, amazing this isn't more of a campaign issue.

  16. The policeman speaks with an interesting accent, a bit incomprehensible, but he has good eyes to have noticed the knife from so far away in such darkness
His gun is missing a flashlight, which can be a serious problem during the night shift

The guy might have intended to kill himself with this toy gun, although it was still strong after several shots, a lot of blood was spilled, although the question of his strength in this case is only a matter of time
