Gaithersburg, Maryland — On May 20, 2023, at approximately 5:00 a.m., Montgomery County Department of Police 2nd District officers responded to a call for service in the middle travel lane on the ramp of Rockledge Road to check the welfare of an adult male inside of a car. When officers arrived, they found a lone individual who they believed to be intoxicated and observed a gun on the driver’s lap. They attempted to prevent the occupant from driving away.
However, he drove off, heading northbound on I-270. Officers initiated a brief pursuit and the driver crashed on I-270, south of route 28. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have identified the man as 37-year-old Lawrence White of Washington, D.C. The crash involved other cars on I-270. Two adults in a separate vehicle were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Following the crash, lanes were closed on I-270 for several hours as police investigated, until travel was reopened at approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

Could've blocked him in a lot better than that at the start. Instead put other innocent lives at risk. Just because the 2 people had "non life threatening injuries" doesn't mean they won't have a lifetime of pain from a back or neck injury.

Few thing not that it matters. Why did they just sit there when the mutt was in drive ramming their police car with a gun in his hand? Secondly, why did they go 120mph+ in the substantial amount of traffic causing a horrendous crash putting others in jeopardy for a DUI on 270 and 495?
Lawrence Kutrelle White, a convicted felon. Once convicted for. Breaking into ATF cars and stealing weapons. Looks like he went out in a blaze here. Risking so many innocent people's lives in the process.

I appreciate what these guys do, but man, with all the time they had, there were plenty of options; better box in, GPS tracker, strap the tires together, bust a window then taze him, sugar in the gas tank, sing him a lullaby, etc…I know, couch cop here. Thanks anyway.
