Tallahassee, Florida — On March 8, 2024, just after 2:00 p.m., an officer with the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) was injured in a shooting following a violent physical altercation that ensued as an officer attempted to affect an arrest following an earlier trespassing incident involving the suspect, 36-year-old Willis Adams, at the Loyalty Inn, located at 2738 North Monroe Street. Less than two hours after the initial call for service, the suspect returned to the hotel, where one of the original officers was still on scene. The officer, recognizing the suspect from the earlier incident, gave verbal commands to Adams letting him know he would be arrested.

The officer attempted to gain voluntary compliance, using both his baton and TASER, as the suspect violently resisted. The suspect escalated his attack on the officer, who subsequently reached for his firearm. As the two struggled, the officer’s firearm discharged, and the officer was struck in the hand. The suspect left with the officer’s firearm. A secondary officer arriving on scene following the shooting also attempted to take Adams into custody when Adams reached for the secondary officer’s firearm as well. After struggle, and with the assistance off-duty deputies from the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office and Leon County Sheriff’s Office, who stopped to help, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The injured officer is in stable condition and is expected to recover.

  2. While you arm chair quarterbacks are making your comments Please don't forget about 2 little facts:
    1. Criminal Prosecution
    2. Civil Liability
Things civilians don't have to deal with in most fighting situations.

  4. Do officers still carry pepper spray? After the Taser fail, spray would’ve been the better option, not baton or hand-to-hand.

  5. It is very easy for people to share opinions with full context or all the factors or information. I can assure that if the officer would have just acted on straight street versus F**kng Police tactics it would have been a different outcome. Meet the Perp (Adams) on the same level he was on versus escalation protocol BS. But unfortunately that is not how it is written. Everyone is making comments of what they would have done, but that is not based on what Cops are allowed to do….. You can't use an eye strike, a kick to the grown, a knee jam, or a low kick leg sweep….. Please keep this in mind….
May this Officer of 10+ years continue to Protect and Serve

  6. Nah how are YOU going to pull up on him with a taser and baton and a gun and HE takes them away from you. You would think at a certain point you get humbled, stop and wait for backup. The cop was lucky

  7. Maintenant je comprends pour quoi les policiers américains préfèrent d'abord tirer et poser les questions après !!!

  8. Good lord, that officer was very lucky that day!😳
And where did that second officer go, from the beginning of the interaction?? So many issues here that led to this ridiculous and alarming result.

  9. “That guy doesn't have the bearing or attitude to be a police officer.”

That guy has been a highly successful Police Officer for more than 10 years. Simply trying to protect employees/civilians that where threatened by death or bodily harm by Mr. Adams (perp) is a part of the job. Would you have rather Adams be shot dead rather than the officer attempting to go through standard escalation protocols? As much as we want to believe Taser are not as effective as civilians think and are not as predictable. There are a lot of factors that affect the effectiveness (i.e. drugs, rage, body weight, weapon stability). If the officer would have shot him for resisting arrest or making an aggressive movement toward him then what?…….

  10. “Sooooo, ALL those, "why didn't you taser him" crowd, where are you now??”

You’re exactly right. Taser have a less than 68% effectiveness rate. However, officers are prosecuted if they don’t attempt to deploy them. How can the playing field be considered even for Perps vs Cops when you don’t have the full support of Society. Police Officers have families too.

Damned if You Do….Damned if You Don’t

  11. A desperate down and out man with nothing to loose and more than likely on Meth, is the most dangerous living organism on Earth

  12. " 36-year-old Willis Adams" is hilarious! Where are the other body cams from when he was arrested? This is only part of it. Major live streaming talent here.”

You’re a look at the entire body cam compilations would be nice including when the officers arrived on scene originally all the way to the arrest.

  13. “What a failure of an officer.. also I stand by always having two officers on patrol.”

There were more than two officers when the Sergeant and the 3rd officer answered the call. Adams hold have been arrested when they answered the original 911 Call. Should every officer be embarrassed or quit at the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd incident that according to Civilian Score Keepers.

  14. “This cop should retire. This life ain't for you.”

Thank God, Cops don’t think like you. We would have no Police. The Officer has Protected and Served for 10+ years, why in the hell would he retire after a scuffle with an ignorant MF that should have been arrested when they original answered the Domestic Violence or Disturbing the Peace call to 911. Officers don’t go to work to win fights or attempt to be the tough guys. There is no score being kept. Wow, what if American Soldiers thought like you….America has waged five major wars, winning one decisively, then throwing that victory away, while losing the other four disastrously. Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq, as well as the Global War on Terror, were the losses, of course…. where would we be in trouble

Historical Champions who suffered losses but didn’t choose to think like you and quit or retire:

Tom Brady, Kobe Bryant, Mike Tyson, Roger Federer, Bo Jackson, Lionel Messi, Babe Ruth, Jim Thorpe, Michael Phelps, Usain Bolt, Wayne Gretzky, Muhammad Ali, and Michael Jordan

The fact of the matter it is not about how many times or how you get knocked down, it’s about how many times you are willing to get back up and try again. Protecting and Serving is an Unappreciated and Unacknowledged ongoing Job for Police Officers, Sheriffs, (i.e. Law Enforcement), and Military

  15. “This officer should not have let his ego get in his way, and just wait for backup. Your ego is not your amigo. Next time wait for a back up officer before trying to go hands on with a combative individual.”

Officer were called to a scene at a hotel of a man threaten to harm civilians/employees. The man was commanded to leave and chose to return after communicating threats. If he was allowed to run away while the officer was waiting on back-up, what happens if the next time he returns and there is no officer there….Someone dies. Easy to Monday-Morning-Quarterback

  16. “Officer seemed super confident for someone with absolutely zero skills whatsoever…”

You have No Clue to level of the officer skills or training. Your comment comes with limited knowledge. If the officer would have busted Adams in the head with his baton or used and proper martial technique than he gets charged with excessive force. It is not a level playing ground when a Perp is hyped up on Rage or Drugs and the officer has to start at a 2 or 3 level. Remember the officer addressed Adams as Mr. Adams and even assisted him in putting his personal items in his vehicle. There was no fear in the officer and he didn’t scream, cry, or yell when he was shot.

  17. “he told him he was gonna bust his ass. dude could probably tell the cop couldn't physically handle him, and the lack of hand to hand combat training almost cost the officer his life. if the guy truly wanted to kill the officer, there was nothing the officer could have done to prevent him at that point.”

The words mean nothing, officer hear threatening aggressive comments every day. The officer is in fact trained very well, after being engaged and shot in the hand the officer jammed the gun in the dirt making it unable to be fired although Adams eventually pulled the weapon away. You will also hear the officer telling the civilian to grab his firearm. Adams would have been dead if he was encountered by an officer that feared for his life and went to Gun 1st versus 3rd. Officer don’t have to be the biggest or strongest guys; simply Protect and Serve.

  18. “Wow the guy literally disarmed him of 3 weapons (Taser, Baton, AND handgun) that's pretty embarrassing”

The guy didn’t disarm of anything – the officer didn’t have any fear of Mr. Adams. If the officer did he would have pulled his fire arm and shot the belligerent, noncompliant, ignorant F**K. from a safe distance. The only reason Adams is ALIVE is because the officer went through escalation protocols with an idiot who was already at a 10. Firing a taser that has proven to have only a 68% effective rate is stupid. There are too many things that effect its ability to be successful when deployed. Embarrassment is for the weak. Most officer don’t get embarrassed, they have to deal with situations every day that don’t always leave them with the best looking outcome in Societies eyes. (Perp lived and Officer lived)

  19. I bet this LEO was the butt of all jokes by his fellow LEO! 😂😂 This vid should be a training tutorial on how not to defend ykurself against a perp. 🤣🤣

  20. Cop needs nutrition and weight lifting program, maybe jujitsu! And then his partner let's him disarm him and didn't shoot him. Let's hear folks. Was any privilege displayed? We all know if that had been a brother, he'd be dead.

  21. This is prime example for all the one’s who like to jump up screaming “he didn’t even have a weapon”

  22. @bananainacup:

“He’s lucky that dude didn’t want to be a murderer that day”

    He’s not LUCKY he’s BLESSED
