SYRACUSE, NEW YORK –
New York Attorney General Letitia James today released
police body-worn camera footage from members of the
Syracuse Police Department that the Office of the
Attorney General obtained as part of its ongoing
investigation into the death of Allison Lakie, 33
who died on October 20, 2021, following an encounter
with members of the Syracuse Police Department.

In the early hours of October 20,
members of SPD responded to a call from the
mother of Allison Lakie about her daughter with
a knife at 216 Ulster Street in Syracuse.
When officers, including crisis-trained officers,
arrived at the residence, they initiated
communications with the Allison Lakie.

At some point after communications began, Allison Lakie set a fire within the residence and charged at officers with a knife. 4 Officers shot Allison. She was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead at 4:01 am.

According to the Syracuse Police Department, the officers who fired their department-issued handguns are Lieutenant David Hart, Sergeant Matthew Liadka, Officer Kenneth Sheehan, and officer Nicolas Saralegui-Martin.

Her sister wrote in a Change.org petition:
“Lindsey Jean started this petition addressed to the President of the United States and to 13 others
Police brutality needs to stop. This really hit home for my family October 20, 2021 when my sister Allison Lakie, who so desperately needed medical help and intervention while going through a mental health crisis was fatally shot by Syracuse, New York Police officers.”

The Office of Special Investigation (OSI) in the Office of the Attorney General released three videos from body-worn cameras that responding officers were equipped with during the incident. The release of these videos follows Attorney General James’ directive that redacted camera footage obtained by her office in the course of an OSI investigation be released to the public in order to increase transparency and strengthen public trust in these matters.

Pursuant to New York state Executive Law Section 70-b, OSI assesses every incident reported to it where a police officer or a peace officer, including a corrections officer, may have caused the death of a person, by an act or omission. Under the law, the officer may be on-duty or off-duty, and the decedent may be armed or unarmed. Also, the decedent may or may not be in custody or incarcerated. If OSI’s assessment indicates an officer caused the death, OSI proceeds to conduct a full investigation of the incident.

  2. I will say this every time but the second you call the cops, you are saying I’m afraid, I can’t do this, please come help. Always assume if someone has a weapon or is suicidal it’s like a 20% chance that you are calling in for your loved one to get shot. That is what cops do. They don’t cradle people. I see both sides but I think she wanted to die, I have had the same thoughts but medicine and therapy helped a lot, I knew something was wrong and I was in the right frame of mind to get help. For some it’s too late.

  3. All these
" Specially " trained Cops can't deal with a little girl with a knife !?
So they shoot her Dead – Total disgrace !

  4. What a nightmare scenario. Danger if you go in, danger if you don't go in, right now!

I can't think of anything the officers could've done, without seriously risking their own safety.

  5. Yall could've used mase
    rubber bullets
    or you use your Tasers
Lethal force was not called for
Two knives in crazed womans hands
against 6 guns an a shield

  6. If they had gone outside she would have fled the fire. She had no hostage. Killing her to save her life is an example of mission creep.

Did that female officer fire in between her partners ?!?! Seriously. Whatever.

  7. Why do they go to blame the police and screaming police brutality during a mental health crisis when they should be blaming themselves for not doing anything to help them. Its not the burden of the police department to get your kids help, its your burden.
This camera footage should be shown in full on all news networks because it shows how long the police took to try and talk her down from the proverbial edge. They spent what seems to eternity talking and having fire to come in to put out that fire, but that was all in vain. They used less than lethal multiple times and didn't immedietly go to shooting which if it was police brutality they would have. While a unfortunate situation, the police did everything they should have done and could have done.

  8. Seems like this crew is well trained in CIT. We are asking LE to wear many hats and perform at a high level… With less resources and less support.

  9. The family is claiming "police brutality"..?? What a bunch of garbage.

Can't stand the bleeding heart logic behind it. She's having a mental health crisis, they (family) can't handle it, call the police to put their lives at risk, then say it's "police brutality"..

  10. Should have just called some prison guards. They would have ended this quick. And she would still be here. How hard is it to over power a woman with a knife?

  11. Police brutality petition really? Are serious?

Rush me with a knife and I’m grabbing a fist filler and flattening your nose. I’ve been stabbed before it just burns like a bitch. Take the one hit, the blood will make who everyone stand you lose the knife most of the time. And gives you time to smack em back.

Then again it was more of a shiv than a knife.

  12. I think the female officer who was talking to her did a good job they gave her as much as she could give. Well done to the officers and mental health is a beatch. Oh and happy new year to everyone and I hope that it's a safe and prosperous one for you all… Blessings from Scotland

  13. i surrender to officer Mc Candy urgently arrest me and take me to your bedroom. The handcuffs remain. the girls looks pretty

  14. Looks like she was running out of the room (knife in hand) because she couldn't breathe due to the fire/fire extinguisher. She was given plenty of opportunities to comply. Seems like she was in an altered state. Perhaps a flash bang grenade or shotgun bean bags could have disarmed her. Unfortunate they had to use lethal.
