A man is now in stable condition after his head and neck got trapped between his car door and door frame in an unusual accident at a McDonald’s drive-thru Friday evening.

Jesse Loveless, a 19-year-old Tooele resident, was handing cash to the store employee when the wind blew the money out of the employee’s hand and the accident occurred, Tooele police officer Tanya Turnbow said.

Loveless opened his car door to retrieve the money from the ground when his foot somehow slipped off the brake and onto the gas, sending his car forward into the building, Turnbow said.

The car continued to lunge forward and continued to trap the driver. Loveless wasn’t breathing and was unresponsive when police officers arrived at the McDonald’s at 970 N. Main Street.

The officers broke into the passenger’s side window and gained access to the ignition and gear shift to prevent the car from moving forward and causing further injury, Turnbow said.

Tooele officers, along with other agencies, pushed the car away from the building and were able to get to Loveless.

The paramedics were quick to respond, and EMS took over. Loveless was transported by ambulance to a Salt Lake area hospital and was upgraded to stable condition Monday morning.

  1. Trapped: When only 2 out of 4 doors are available. And you're so frozen by choice, you call the police and ask them "nooo but which one would you choose?" over and over until they break your windows out and drag you from the car.
JFC. Ought to send a bill for time+materials for this call.

  2. Damn, this kid I played football with when i was in middle school was killed just like this but he was at a ATM. Crazy this really happens.

  3. Poor kid almost died over a few bucks and a stupid mistake. Glad he is doing better, but it’s a miracle he made it as long as it took these officers to get him out

  4. I AM SO GLAD I READ THE DESCRIPTION AFTER WATCHING THIS VIDEO! I kept thinking, how tf could you get trapped in your car at that angle? Are you too fat to climb out the other door? I was so confused. I kept thinking there had to be something else to this. So glad this McAccident wasn't fatal.

  5. See what eating fat food will do to you.
Also: All of those people and no one thought "hey, why don't we just slide the front of the car over".

  6. Common sense: PUT THE CAR IN PARK. Hopefully he learnt his valuable lesson in this. Did he even know how to drive to begin with? Obviously not because of this incident.

  7. No one intelligent enough at McD's to free the man? More likely with ambulance chasers all over, I bet it was corporate policy not to intervene. A sad indictment of our society.

  8. If there is an adult in that car, I pity them for not being able to kick a fucking window out or something.
