LYNN POLICE OFFICERS MICHAEL HANLON AND GREGORY McCARTHY RESPOND TO A CALL ABOUT A KNIFE-WIELDING ASSAILANT. AT THE SCENE, THEY FIND TWO OFFICERS WITH WEAPONS DRAWN ON A MAN HOLDING A LARGE BUTCHER KNIFE. THE FOUR OFFICERS WALK UP AN EMPTY HIGHWAY AS THEY TRY TO TALK THE MAN INTO DROPPING THE KNIFE — HE REFUSES. THE OFFICERS REPEATEDLY EMPHASIZE THAT THEY ARE NOT THERE TO HARM HIM, BUT HE MUST DROP THE KNIFE. THE SUSPECT BECOMES LOUDER AND MORE AGITATED. TWO MORE OFFICERS JOIN IN THE WALK DOWN THE HIGHWAY, ALL OF THE OFFICERS HAVE THEIR SERVICE REVOLVERS TRAINED ON THE SUSPECT. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF WALKING UP THE HIGHWAY, ANOTHER PATROL CAR DRIVES UP. AS THE WALK CONTINUES, YET ANOTHER PATROL CAR ARRIVES ON THE SCENE. AN OFFICER TRIES TO KNOCK THE KNIFE OUT OF THE SUSPECT’S HAND WITH A BATON. IT’S A FUTILE ATTEMPT, THE SUSPECT HOLDS ONTO THE KNIFE AND CONTINUES WALKING UP THE DESERTED ROAD. A STATE POLICE CAR PULLS AHEAD OF THE SUSPECT IN AN ATTEMPT TO RESTRICT HIS PATH AND SEVERAL OFFICERS CONVERGE NEAR THE SUSPECT. AS THEY MAKE YET ANOTHER ATTEMPT TO GET THE SUSPECT TO DROP THE KNIFE, HE CHARGES AT AN OFFICER WITH THE KNIFE AND IS SHOT. EVEN AFTER BEING SHOT, THE SUSPECT REFUSES TO YIELD HIS WEAPON. THE OFFICERS WRESTLE THE SUSPECT TO THE GROUND, DISARMING AND CUFFING HIM. THERE’S CONFUSION IN THE TAKE DOWN AS THE OFFICERS AREN’T SURE THE SUSPECT WAS SHOT. IT’S ONLY WHEN THEY LIFT HIS SHIRT AND FIND A BULLET HOLE IN HIS ABDOMEN THAT THEY GET A CONFIRMATION. HANLON EXPLAINS THE DETAILS OF THE SHOOTING TO POLICE CHIEF JOHN F. HOLLOW. AN EMERGENCY MEDICAL VEHICLE ARRIVES TO TAKE THE SUSPECT TO A HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT.

I’m actually glad to see that they handled that well and none of them got seriously hurt or injured. That could have been a lot more worse if they didn’t do something about it. Now I hope that a lot of people can see and now understand why the cops have to protect themselves in situations like this
I remember this was the first and potentially only time a suspect was actually killed during filming.

I have this whole clip on DVD. The DVD is called "COPS: Shots Fired". And IIRC, the gun went off by accident as the officer was falling with the suspect over the guard rail and the bullet went into the guy's abdomen.

a Gutshot on a dude that big isn't going to kill him. The Bullet was too close to expand. Takes a long time to die from a Belly shot. He's going to have a scar and bad memory of that day. I just hope they heal his mind as well as his body.
Im surprised it took them that long to shoot him. Thought he was gonna get shot in the leg the third time he didn't drop it like they told him to.

The cops did good manhandling this dude. But what I don't like is that cops bring a whole gang together and just dogpile on one individual. Sometimes I hate it when that happens if it was a gang that be totally different but ganging up on one individual is so overwhelmed.
